Ghost

Post by Cail »

I can't believe there's no thread for them.

I'm old, and I rarely listen to music that I don't own, so my exposure to new stuff is minimal. I got tickets to see Maiden this summer, and Ghost is the opening act. I'd never heard of them, so I poured myself a cocktail and went to YouTube, and.....

Holy shit, I have a new favorite band.

HOLY SHIT!

HOLY SHIT!

I've since collected everything they've recorded, and oh my freaking God are these guys awesome. My initial though seeing them was, "just what the world needs, another costume band", but they're so much more than that. They're Blue Oyster Cult plus Satanism, with a taste of King Diamond, a dash of Slayer.

Check 'em out.

I was on the fence about seeing Iron Maiden this year, but this may be the tipping point.

Honestly, it's melodic metal with a handful of tongue-in-cheekness. This s*it just rocks.

Edited to add - And I knew you'd love it Sorus. Though we'll (probably, sadly, unfortunately) never meet, we have very similar musical tastes, and this is really up both of our alleys.

I hope you go see them, and I'm really looking forward to your take on them.

I liked their cover of Here Comes the Sun, but the rest is too cheesy for me.

[Edit: it's funny that they think of themselves as "Satanic." My wife listening in the next room, unable to see, thought they were a Christian band ... happy music trying too hard to sound dark. lol]

To be fair, all metal is cheesy to a certain extent. I like the fact that Ghost embraces it and has fun with it. To me, that's much less silly than the Cookie-Monster growling of so many other metal bands who take themselves waaaaaaay too seriously.

I know what you mean, Cail. I appreciate melody more than growling.
