HOLY @#$%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't even know where to begin! The music, the fights, the story, the way it's told, the nods to various things (the old kung fu movies, Monty Python, Clint Eastwood's westerns)....

Wow, just amazing!!!

Not here it doesn't.

When I checked last week the release date was 15th April, now it's suddenly become the 29th. Ah well, at least that gives me time to watch the first on DVD - after it arrives from Amazon - before seeing the second.

Great film, though the version I saw was on an inferior quality copied DVD (poor picture in some parts)

I liked the animated part...

Very good, though from the ads the second appears to have a different feel...

My friend Seth is bringing Kill Bill over tonight on DVD, and I'm going to see it for the first time. I just wish they didn't take out the color during the fights . . . I'm pretty sure other countries didn't do that, but the U.S. is a bunch of ninety-seven pound weaklings who can't handle a movie with violence (apparently even if they knowingly want to go see it).

The normal version (or at least the one I saw) only has one sequence in black and white - used quite well, IMO. They also used other things like that (including sillhouettes(sp) at one point) throughout that same fighting sequence.

Well, I'd been told it was all the fights, but if it's just one (and it's done well), then that's fine.

Well, I don't know which version I own - it's a pirate DVD, might have been recorded in a cinema, I'm not sure :/
I personally think the black and white was okay, but I dunno - it happens quite suddenly (though the way it goes back to colour works).

Yeah, mine is store-bought, and only has that couple of minutes in b&w.

And I agree, Murrin, the anime was excellent!

Kill Bill Vol. 1 was one of only a handful of films I bothered to see last year, and I was glad I did. Too bad it had to be released in the midst of the Tolkien love fest that was ROTK. Otherwise the general moviegoing public might have paid more attention to Kill Bill.

Well I saw it and liked it a lot . . . There were parts that were so bloody that me and Josh could only laugh. The anime portion was great! Going to see Vol. 2 this Thursday with the two guys I saw the fist volume with and one other friend. Gonna be awesome.

I couldn't wait, and saw the 11pm showing last night. Yup, I'm a huge fan of these movies!! Vol. 2 was excellent!! Very different from Vol. 1. LOTS less fighting (not that it's lacking), and much more plot & characterization.

Carradine's face is actually seen this time.

I don't think he's anywhere near the best actor, so I was a little worried. But he did a very nice job, and the relationship between his and Uma's characters was great.

Saw Vol. 2 yesterday. I'll declare it now: Kill Bill is the best thing Quentin Tarantino has ever done. It has ripped and shredded its way to a lofty position on my all-time list.

I had no problems with David Carradine. He was a cool cat. By having Carradine, Tarantino was both spoofing and paying homage to Kung Fu. Bill's superhero lecture was pretty good!

Gordon Liu as Pai Mei was hilarious! Someone should do another Remo Williams movie with Liu as the Master of Sinanju.

Uma's fight with Daryl Hannah (aka California Snake) was wicked. I just wonder if there are any real-life one-eyed martial artists? A person needs stereoscopic vision (i.e. two eyes) to enable depth of perception. With just one eye, it's very difficult to properly judge distances to objects. I would imagine that would be a fatal handicap when you're trying to evade a sword or fist. Right, Fist?

Anyway, crazy movie. Brilliant movie. Love it.

I haven't seen the second volume yet, but the first one had some really brilliant, breathtaking, beautiful scenes (especially those including the adorable Ms Lucy Liu).

I'm really curious what the second part will be like.

After all the Tarantino-look-a-likes that we've seen over the last years, this is the real thing again! I don't know any other director who could afford to shoot a martial arts film with a pan flutes(?) soundtrack.

WOW! I've only seen it on copied dvd as well! And that copy was also very poor. I liked the schoolgirl killer though

What about Dae Han from Best of the Best?

(Actually, I liked the first movie, mainly because of him. He was practically an elemental force!) But I imagine a serious martial artist can adjust to the loss of an eye. I don't know of any, but then, Bruce & Chuck are the only martial artists I know anyway. heh

Yup. The more I think of them, and the more I talk about them at work, the more I love them. The homage to the various genres, and still telling a story of no small emotional significance in the Tarantino-style!

Actually you do not even NEED eyes to be a martial artist. One of the drills they use for wrestling is to fight blindfolded, going by feel and sound. There have actually been some very good blind wrestlers.

There are drills for things like kung fu also, where you're in constant contact, learning to feel the opponent's movements and figure out where they're going. And that will work fine for wrestling, where you're always in contact anyway. But, with apologies to Master Po, it's just not going to work in most martial arts.
