A Perfect Circle

The 13th Step... buy this record.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I heard James Iha auditioned for APC. May be on their next record?

Hey, Syl, what big hits are on this disc? Haven't heard any, I don't think.

Yep, Iha is part of APC now, as is Twiggy from Marilyn Manson. The track on the radio now is Weak and Powerless. Some of the better tracks off the album, though, are The Nurse Who Saved Me, The Noose, The Package, and The Outsider (strangely, all the songs beginning with "The")

Didn't think they would have anywhere to go after Mer De Noms. To me, APC will always be Maynard's 'other' band...

Yeah, that's how I felt at first, but the more I listen to it, the more I feel that APC is not Tool (any Tool fan looking for Tool in APC is bound to be disappointed) and is an amazing band in its own right.

And The 13th Step is much more depressing and melodious than Mer de Noms.

Religious implications aside this song busts ass (and NO Autumn it's Not Tool! :P 8) )

Judith

You're such an inspiration for the ways
That I'll never ever choose to be
Oh so many ways for me to show you
How the savior has abandoned you
F*ck your God
Your Lord and your Christ
He did this
Took all you had and
Left you this way
Still you pray, you never stray
Never taste of the fruit
You never thought to question why

It's not like you killed someone
It's not like you drove a hateful spear into his side
Praise the one who left you
Broken down and paralyzed
He did it all for you
He did it all for you

Oh so many many ways for me to show you
How your dogma has abandoned you
Pray to your Christ, to your god
Never taste of the fruit
Never stray, never break
Never---choke on a lie
Even though he's the one who did this to you
You never thought to question why

Not like you killed someone
It's Not like you drove a spiteful spear into his side
Talk to Jesus Christ
As if he knows the reasons why
He did it all for you
Did it all for you
He did it all for you
fall far and well Pilots!

I know nothing of A Perfect Circle, but I did finally pick up Tool's Opiate. This band is ferocious! Amazing intensity! 26 minutes and change isn't a great amount of music to put on a CD, but I can live with it.

So, Tool and A Perfect Circle are related to each other?

You picked up Opiate to start with? Right on. You'll be amazed at how much they change from that to Lateralus.

Tool and APC share the same vocalist, Maynard Keenan.

The 13th Step is a great album - probably in my top 10 of all time list. The Package, The Noose, Blue, The Outsider, The Nurse Who Loved Me, Pet, Gravity - all outstanding songs with thought-provoking lyrics.

I've had it on high rotation :D

Hourglass stands out so far - I'm loving it! It has a slightly unusual start but then the beat kicks in.
