1 tablespoon salad oil
1 tablespoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

3 lbs. chicken drumsticks (1 large or 2 small drumsticks per person)

1/4 cup butter or margarine

1. In 13" by 9" baking dish, mix first 4 ingredients(blue font); add chicken, turning to coat well. Refrigerate at least 4 hrs, turning often.

2. About 1 hr before serving: On waxed paper, coat chicken drumsticks with oats.

I have this great barbecue sauce that I like to cook drumstix in.....
2 tabs soy sauce
1/3 cup tomato sauce (ketchup)
2 tabs honey
1 tabs brown sugar
2 tabs cider vinegar
1 teas fresh grated ginger
2 cloves garlic crushed
1/4 cup hot water

* just combine all ingredients in a bottle and shake
Pour over drumstix and cook at moderate temp till done.
I like to add a little more garlic, honey and tomato sauce - you can experiment and adjust ingredients according to your own taste.

This sauce is really great for chicken wings and spare ribs as well :)

Turiya Foul,
Hey that sounds nice and simple and healthy. My kinda cookin.
I have no salad oil. Do you think Olive oil will work instead?

olive oil is excellent salad oil ..

canola would also suffice .. or sunflower oil .. but the former suggestions are better imho ..

sometimes i like to use sesame oil .. just for that nutty flavour ;)

My mother, back in the day, used to fry our chicken in bacon fat drippings... Thinking back, it tasted sooooo good, but my lord, what was she thinking?

I was talking to my dad yesterday, and he was telling me about how his parents used to make him eat lard snadwiches when he was young. Ah, lard, everything a growing body needs :?

ooh, lard *drools* I haven't had any food cooked in lard for months - my parents switched to foul-tasting vegetable oil :/ Can't get a good chip anywhere these days - not even in my own home :(

I've never eaten anything that has been cooked in lard. I have a health-conscious family :P
