The Guard

Post by stonemaybe »

Anyone seen this yet? Hoping to check it out later tonight, after numerous great reviews from my Irish mates (think it was released there first) and a Tomatometer score of 95%

(PS 'The Guard' = 'The Policeman' elsewhere in the world)

I loved it! It was absolutely hilarious!

And I watched it with an Irishman who enjoyed it as well (it's set in provincial Ireland).

Pure entertainment at its highest quality; I'm searching through the back list of threads for a particular one and came across this with only one reply! Simply couldn't let it go by without bumping it because the film is simply so so good! Serious, it deserves a thousand responses not one!

You simply cannot fail to love Brendan Gleason's worldly Irish plod - a mixture of resigned cynic and sympathiser of the human condition rolled into one. A failed man who never failed at that one most important than all - at being a human being.

See this film. See this film. See this film See this.......(repeat).

Haha, I've actually been thinking of this one lately because I'm trying to learn Irish Gaelic on Duolingo. I'm itching for the chance to get some real sentences, but right now I'm still at the "She swims with him" stage.

Oh, and I've been seeing Domnhall Gleeson pop up in more places lately, which of course reminds me of his father. It seems like anything with a Gleeson in it is something I'll enjoy.
