where I will review songs that I like. share stories of the artists/bands and what they mean to me. I hope you enjoy.

Bob Mould - New #1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dw3e12vb4Ds

You, yeah, you always haul my ball and chain right
To there, the place where I get lost inside of
You, yeah, I see your face and hear your voice right
Through that which seems so hopeless and confusing

Sometimes I try too hard to separate the
Good times from sadness that we've had together
Balancing, I need to keep it all in some perspective
Calm me down, I need you more than you will ever comprehend

I don't want this to end / I can't lose one more friend

I go through my regrets and I return the compliments and
Hope I find that innocence, I've got to be here no matter what happens

Slow down, you say that time will tell the story, it
Goes around, but no one else could know what's here
Between us, I sense this tension that I know so
Well, but the calm I feel is being with you, near you constantly

I can't wash this away / it's here to stay

I need to cleanse my soul, these thoughts will make me lose control
So if I lose control, don't leave me, you've got to be here, no matter what happens

Trust me, I'm here for you with good intentions
Trust in me, despite some times when I don't trust
Myself, in myself, in my head, in my own confusion
My confusion gets the best of me, my illusions set me free

Free to dream about what I really need to set me
Free, is it you, is it me, what can I do to set you
Free, to be real, to be with me when I need you
Are you listening, are you listening to me

Forgive me when I lose control (sometimes I forget myself)
Forgive me for the thoughts I have (sometimes I think just like you)
Maybe I can't trust myself (I know that I can trust in you)
But I can't keep it to myself (I feel just like you)

from the Last Dog and Pony Show - what Bob promised to be his last "rock" record. he had wanted to explore a more electronic brand of music. he eventually would return to the rock band trope.

on every Bob album I find at least on great song, a handful of good to great songs and album filler. this ranks among his greatest songs. that counts Husker Du and Sugar. the lyrics are amazing, the music driving. this also ranks among Julie's favorite Bob songs.

R.E.M - Carnival Of Sorts (Box Cars)

Carnival of Sorts(Boxcars)

There's a secret stigma, reaping wheel
Diminish, a carnival of sorts
Chronic town, poster torn, reaping wheel
Stranger, stranger to these parts

Gentlemen don't get caught, cages under cage
Gentlemen don't get caught
Box cars are pulling out of town
Box cars are pulling out of town
Box cars are pulling out of town

Cages under, cages under, cages under cage
Cages under, cages under, cages under cage

There's a secret stigma reaping wheel
Stranger, stranger to these parts
Chronic town, poster torn, reaping wheel
Diminish, stranger

Boxcars are pulling a carnival of sorts
Out of town, out of town

from their 1982 debut ep Chronic Town.

the entire ep is amazing. this has been my favorite song since the first time I heard it sometime in the early 80's.

I love the music, the artful lyrics, the mystery of the song. I love how the music is urgent and moves/propels you through the song. I always feel hopeful and young when listening to the song. like all the possibilities of the world are open to me. it reminds me of my youth.

the entire ep

Trees Lounge - Hayden

Trees Lounge - Hayden

Sit here in Trees Lounge
Pour it in my mouth
I Need something to forget
What got me in this mess

I'm feeling less and less
My Judgment is not clear
I do things that I fear,
I would never do

Sit here in Trees Lounge
Order one more round
You have a pretty name,
Pretty like your name

Lets play a drinking game
And If I win I get to,
Take you home and if you,
Win, you go home with me

'Cause I need something to forget,
What got me in this mess
Feeling less and less
My judgment is not clear
I do things that I fear,
I would never do

Songwriters: Desser, Paul Hayden / Buscemi, Steve

from the soundtrack to Steve Buscemi's directing debut, Trees Lounge. Steve gets a writing credit for the song for the drinking game lines. it is taken from the movie.

some cast members are in the proper video. Seymour Hersh is on drums. Bronson Dudley starts out playing guitar and we see him dancing at the end of the video. Mark Boone Junior is seated at the table behind the band. and Rockets Red Glare takes over on guitar.

the movie is among my top five favorite movies of all time. and amazing cast, a great script. I'll review the movie in the movie section.
