Purple Lilacs

some girls look
pretty in pink
a shimmering glow,
hung around like
another toothache
beyond the snow,
eating its way
deeper into your
wakeful bones.

just after dusk
or
right before dawn,
aglow in moonlight
luminous as ghosts
better scarlet
than grey
and the sky
such strange colours
