An absolutely fabulous epic fantasy televisual representation of two series of books in the Grishaverse created by American author Leigh Bardugo: her trilogy, the first of which is Shadow and Bone (2012); and the duology that begins with Six of Crows (2015).
I’ve not read the books but once I got part the first few wos that contained I think a degree of assumed knowledge - I’ve not looked back.
The series is well made, the sets, the costumes are absolutely brilliant and could well and confidently rival GOTs imo.

Found it to be a bit too YA Novel-ish for me. Not that I mind some less mature content, but too much other than some really good characterization was too on the nose for me.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Yeah I see what you are saying and that did give me pause in the beginning but I stuck with it and it is really good … developed well - loved the costume and set detail - filmed in Budapest and the location is awesome.
