Gap Quiz

In This Day All Gods Die, in the fifth chapter to be entitled "Warden", was written the following:
"Morn" is the correct answer, Savor Dam! Great answer! It's now your Gap Quiz question!!Warden had plenty of time to think while he waited for Morn to reestablish contact; all the time he needed. More than enough to realize how much he'd staked on her.
God, he'd gambled everything--
Unless or until Hashi found the evidence he'd hunted, she was the only witness who could support Koina's accusations against Holt Fasner. Without her, anything Koina said depended solely for its credibility on Warden's personal statements--which might be dismissed as self-serving fabrications.

We know Nick's great obsession is revenge upon Sorus, the woman who scorned and scarred him. What was his backstory prior to meeting her and how did they come to be acquainted?

I wish to note that that's a separate (though admittedly similar-sounding) question, IS, asked just a little bit earlier in this thread, where the answer is "Koina", the protocol director of the UMCP. It's quite true that later on in the Gap story Morn also gives testimony to the GCES, so I wanted to clarify by mentioning that I was looking for a UMCP director's name.

I can’t remember! Nick came from a dodgy background and Sorus took him into her group - that become lovers? Nick was in love and Sorus betrayed him. Can’t remember the details or even if my summary is anywhere near the mark!

That isn't wrong but also isn't enough of Nick's origin story. There are some themes here that SRD uses in other aspects of the Gap character arcs.

OK. You're right. I was conflating two questions.Cord Hurn wrote: ↑I wish to note that that's a separate (though admittedly similar-sounding) question, IS, asked just a little bit earlier in this thread, where the answer is "Koina", the protocol director of the UMCP. Gap Quiz
Looks like a hint is called for:
There is your preamble. Tell us how he got from being on a station to being present on Captain's Fancy, getting scarred by Sorus, acquiring the Nick name, etc.Once, when he was barely a man in years, and no more than a boy in experience, he'd been bested by a woman. And she beat him, cheated him, ruined his dreams, she sneered at him. His scars were the marks of her contempt, the visible sign that she hadn't considered him worth killing. Everyone else she had killed, every other man on that ship, nearly 20 of them; But him she'd left with only his scars to remember her by. There was nothing he could do that would make her fear him.
That ship had been the original Captain's Fancy, the inspiration of the name Nick now used for his pretty frigate. The love he felt for his present ship was an echo of his yearning for that earlier vessel. She'd been his dream from the moment when he'd first become old enough to have such dreams.
Nick Succorso -- which, incidentally, wasn't his real name -- had been born station-bound in the same sense that some people were planet-bound, unwilling or unable to leave for one reason or another.
Love prevails.
