Least favorite kind of music??

Post by duchess of malfi »

I can listen to at least some of everything, but I have trouble listening to what I would call "hardcore" rap. :| Does anyone else have a particularly disliked sort of music? :?

Yeah, I'm pretty much open to anything, but I can't stand hardcore gangster rap. Don't get me wrong - I love some rap songs. I really loved Gangsters Paradise. I'm talking about the really hardcore b*ch slappin cap poppin stuff.

I hate Eminem and related stuff like that. It makes me feel like a retard. :( I also dislike Jazz. (Please don't stone me!)

I don't like rap or country or the shrieky "shoo bee doowee doo bop" crap. I really don't like jazz either, (rather odd coming from a sax player!) I don't like screamy music, which really isn't music at all. Orrr, slow music where it takes them 5 seconds to say one syllable...

Wow, maybe I am less tolerant of music than I previously thought!

Well, he has released several quality songs, very good ones too. Listen to "Hallie's Song". It's not rap, so you won't hate it. I think he has some real talent, unlike a lot of other rappers in his category. If you're hearing about him from people your own age or MTV, then you're learning about Eminem through the wrong filters.

In general, I dislike Rap. I don't have an opinion of Eminem since I havn't knowingly listened to any of his work. I can listen to Country for short stretches, but I can't listen to it for more than 15 min or so.

You Don't Even Call Me By My Name by David Allen Coe sums up all the themes of Country music :) :

WELL, IT WAS ALL
THAT I COULD DO TO KEEP FROM CRYING’
SOMETIMES IT SEEMED SO USELESS TO REMAIN
BUT YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME DARLIN’, DARLIN'
YOU NEVER EVEN CALL ME BY MY NAME

YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME WAYLON JENNINGS
AND YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME CHARLIE PRIDE
AND YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME MERLE HAGGARD/ANYMORE
EVEN THOUGH YOU’RE ON MY FIGHTING’ SIDE

CHORUS:
AND I’LL HANG AROUND AS LONG AS YOU WILL LET ME
AND I NEVER MINDED STANDING’ IN THE RAIN
BUT YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME DARLIN’, DARLIN’
YOU NEVER EVEN CALLED ME BY MY NAME

WELL, I’VE HEARD MY NAME
A FEW TIMES IN YOUR PHONE BOOK (Hello, Hello)
AND I’VE SEEN IT ON SIGNS WHERE I’VE PLAYED
BUT THE ONLY TIME I KNOW
I’LL HEAR "DAVID ALLAN COE"
IS WHEN JESUS HAS HIS FINAL JUDGMENT DAY

REPEAT CHORUS

RECITATION:
WELL, A FRIEND OF MINE NAMED STEVE GOODMAN WROTE THAT SONG
AND HE TOLD ME IT WAS THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG
I WROTE HIM BACK A LETTER AND I TOLD HIM IT WAS NOT THE PERFECT COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG BECAUSE HE HADN’T SAID ANYTHING AT ALL ABOUT MAMA,
OR TRAINS,
OR TRUCKS,
OR PRISON,
OR GETTING’ DRUNK
WELL HE SAT DOWN AND WROTE ANOTHER VERSE TO THE SONG
AND HE SENT IT TO ME,
AND AFTER READING IT,
I REALIZED THAT MY FRIEND HAD WRITTEN THE PERFECT
COUNTRY & WESTERN SONG
AND I FELT OBLIGED TO INCLUDE IT ON THIS ALBUM
THE LAST VERSE GOES LIKE THIS HERE:

WELL, I WAS DRUNK THE DAY MY MOM GOT OUT OF PRISON
AND I WENT TO PICK HER UP IN THE RAIN
BUT BEFORE I COULD GET TO THE STATION IN MY PICKUP TRUCK
SHE GOT RUN NED OVER BY A DAMNED OLD TRAIN

CHORUS:
AND I’LL HANG AROUND AS LONG AS YOU WILL LET ME
AND I NEVER MINDED STANDING’ IN THE RAIN
NO, A’ YOU DON’T HAVE TO CALL ME DARLIN’, DARLIN’
YOU NEVER EVEN CALL ME
WELL I WONDER WHY YOU DON’T CALL ME
WHY DON’T YOU EVER CALL ME BY MY NAME

I'm not particularly fond of "pop-country"? top-40 country? Not sure what to call it, but I'm sure you guys know which songs and artisits I'm referring to. I do, however, adore Bluegrass, which to me is the real deal. Takes me back to my childhood and visiting all of my relatives down south. :)

While I detest M & Ms and Snoop Dogg...why is it I dig Korn, Rage and Everclear? I DO NOT like gangsta rap! But then again I can listen 2 Korn talk about killing some1 and System of a Down talk about premeditated murder, guns and suicide! Dang am I 1 poor kornfused cookie!?

Anyway, what I really detest (BeeGees aside, 4 they DO rule!) is most disco and most importantly BAD disco! (Not a fan of the Village People, sorry! 8O )
fall far and well Pilots!

First off, I'll pray for you!

Second off, these folks are no more than modern-day Jonathan Swift-s, today's satirists. Read "A Modest Proposal", and think about how 18th century England would've viewed it! Here's a sample from Swift's "Proposal":
"I have been assured by a very knowing American of my acquaintance in London, that a young healthy child well nursed is at a year old a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled ..."
So . . .the songs are a joke, obviously, because the singers are an image, not actual murders talking seriously about murder. We shouldn't take lyrics at base value, nor seriously (come on, take MUSIC seriously? We listen to it to have FUN)--makes folks look like wives of senators, otherwise! Do we want to look like Tipper Gore? Do we?!

It’s funny; folks think that parents calling kids crazy, etc. for the music they listen to is something new! Hello!! Can somebody say Rome 2,000 years ago the exact same stuff was going on?!

I have a fairly strong dislike for the ganster rap side of hip hop. I don't dislike it musically, but I hate the way so many acts glamorise crime, and in particular gun crime. The focus on material possessions as status symbols strikes me as unhealthy too (I believe they call it "bling-bling" or somehting to that effect).

Although I don't buy his records, I find Eminem quite refreshing, as he tends to leave the more destructive issues alone, unlike artists like Dead Prez, who seem only too happy to tell people how they sould go out and cap their white oppressors.

Another country song that always makes me laugh is called "She Thinks My Tractor is Sexy" 8O
I have no idea who sings it, but one of my co-workers brings in his CD and we all get a good laugh and sing-along going!

Well, I have a pretty wide range of styles I like, but there are a few I don't. I'm not keen on pop or RnB, but I'd have to say the worst is hip hop, I really can't stand it.
