The Other Castle

Post by starkllr »

In the prologue, when Linden returns home to find that Jeremiah has built replicas of Revelstone and Mount Thunder, she also finds a third construction: a faery-esque castle in the front entryway of her house.

So what is it supposed to be? And is it significant that Linden has Jeremiah disassemble both Revelstone and Mount Thunder, but leaves this other castle standing...until it's wrecked by Roger during his kidnapping of Jeremiah?

I think the answer to the second question has to be "yes" but as to what that castle is supposed to represent, I haven't a clue. Any ideas?

I think the structure surrounding his bed is MORE important.

I agree - even ROGER was careful not to disturb his bedroom construction!

Yes, it's already been suggested that the structure in the bedroom is representative of
Spoiler
the Arch of Time
But I have to say, I'm also curious about that castle. SRD rarely throws such things in for no reason.

Perhaps the entryway Castle represents a land Linden will travel too for help. A location (or time) so far unknown. And given what roger did to it:
Spoiler
"... ruined castle that littered the entryway"

Perhaps it represents help Foul fears!

The other castle sounds a lot like Orison, the beautiful fairy tale castle from Mordant's Need. And perhaps the structure in his bedroom shows some of the spaceways from the Gap. :P

Generally the word faery seems to be most applicable to the Elohim, as far as TCOTC are concerned. And we know they play a pretty serious role in this series. Maybe it is a construction of theirs?

Ok, so it isn't LIKELY per se, but then how likely is it that an Elohim would fall in love with a mortal woman? I think that an elohim like chant might fall to arrogance, think himself a ruler of the earth as opposed to an expression of it, and create a castle to house his glory.

But I guess I doubt it. Just thought I'd throw it in :)
