The Seven Words

Post by Damelon »

Melenkurion abatha! Duroc minas mill khabaal! The several times in the Chronicles that the Lords use the seven words of power, they only say six. What is the seventh word?

Hmm... I believe it was mentioned once by Foul or a raver that they knew too little of the Seven Words, or the correct way to use them... I don't believe it was actually Seven Words as such - perhaps seven phrases? The Unfettered One in LFB tells us the most:
Melenkurion abatha! Binas mill banas Nimoram khabaal! Melenkurion abatha! Abatha Nimoram!
Atiaran said 'He knew more of the Seven words than my ears have ever heard.'

I always thought it was good how after ten years Covenant wasn't able to suddenly remember every word (like he would if writen by an author of lesser skill) - he gets it wrong when he shouts at the Lurker.

There's a thread about this somewhere that had some really great ideas about it all. IIRC, good thoughts about the words SRD based the 7 on, and ideas of what exactly was meant by "7".

I find it odd that Mhoram learned so much when samadhi touched him, even a whole song for the Forestals, but didn't learn the 7 Words.

If I were samadhi, I'd keep it safeguarded in my mind. Keeping in my mind I'm a Raver of course. :)

I wouldn't have thought that samadhi expected Mhoram to be as strong as he was, and actually able to benefit from their contact, so I wouldn't have expected him to have been safeguarding any knowledge. More like he expected what I assume always happened when he touched a human; terror, panic, and possession.

I agree FnF, samadhi found out a little late that he got more than he bargained for with Mhoram.

yes right you're clearly all over the 6 words of power thing .. that get represented as 7!

what about Amok .. was he a bearer of one of the words of power .. the missing one perhaps??

its been a while since I read .. so just trying to remember?

Amok was the 7th Ward. He never mentioned anything about the 7 Words.

I don't remember anything like that. A quick look in TIW just now didn't find anything.

dont you remember .. something about a word .. or somthing .. and Bannor was asked what it was??

am I confusing this with something else .. that the Haruchai were privy to but retained in secret .. was it not a word .. but something else??

I am thinking it was a word .. mmm ... i will need to think on it a bit more .. who knows maybe even pick up the book and give it a gander ;) ;)

I always assumed that they did not actually know all the seven words of power, and that the last ones were hidden in some of the wards that they had not found yet.

I don't think Amok was the seventh ward, more like the sort of guardian of it. Covenant had to name the seventh ward before Amok would allow him access to it. It was called the Power of Command.

I agree Ryzel. I think that the seventh word is locked in another ward.

Amok refered to himself as the seventh ward, but the actual seventh ward was the blood of Melenkurion Skyweir, which contained the Power of Command. Amok would not lead them to the seventh ward until Bannor told Elena and Covenant the name of the ward: "Power of Command"

Thank you Guest. (Infelice?) That sums up what Sky is thinking of. Amok wouldn't lead you there until "Power of Command" was uttered. And as far as we heard, only Bannor spoke the words. Amok didn't seem to require anyone in particular to say it.

I also agree with Ryzel. Surely Kevin put the Words in the Wards. (heh)

Here's what I think. Amok was the seveth ward. The Blood was the Power of Command. The seven words have a power all there own. The seven words can hurt a raver but not command anything.
