Oh man, I love this thing!!
I saw it first several years ago, and it is scary how low I still am on it... on two counts, I am just one step above the dreaded Furries. To think, being a LARPer is a step up from being a Pokemon fan... heh, at least I'm not a BIG Pokemon fan. It's the Star Trek book collection that kills me, although when you have over a hundred, it's not so much a collection as a library.

So thinking Pikachu is cute and leaving the cartoon on mute while I clean house makes me only one step above a furry???? I object! Thank God I didn't read this in high school--though I'm beginning to understand why I couldn't get a date. (Hey, what's the point of fanfic if you're not going to put yourself in the story?) Fortunately, I stopped all that nonsense when I rediscovered text adventures, which I notice are not on the hierarchy at all! For shame!
Halfway down the stairs Is the stair where I sit. There isn't any other stair quite like it. I'm not at the bottom, I'm not at the top; So this is the stair where I always stop.

Interesting. I only made it to level 2 on the geek flow chart. I stop at Roleplaying gamer (haven't played in years so it might not even count anymore) and sci/fi tv fan. I play video games too. I write, but not fanfic.

Geek chart
Syl,
that is so funny. My expectation was for something more snarky and cruel, but I was surprised by genuine humor. And he bottom category just is hilarious.

Apparently they are the sexpots of the Star Trek universe. I am only a "Comic book fan who reads superhero comics", so I am not exactly an expert on Trek, though I like "Enterprise" and the original series.

Actually, has nothing to do with Star Trek specifically; I think that's just the worst-case-scenario. I'm not too clear on the concept myself... I always get stuck at the phrase "erotic furries" and refuse to go farther.

Furrydom
Concerning Furrydom. FWIW, a CSI episode in the last three years dealt with the topic, rather carefully. Since a murder occured at a Furry convention held in Las Vegas. And Gil Grissom's team did its forensic investigation at the convention.

Chart
Wonder why the chart makers chose to exclude Sherlock Holmes fans? AFAIK, Holmes fans indulge many of the "fannish" excesses. For example, they write their own brand of fan fic, they dress in costume, they obssess over the written canon and over what the Conan Doyle's creation would do in given situations.
FWIW, Holmes was regarded as popular entertainment in its day, and very unworthy of serious consideration.

Well, I too would only be on the second rung of the geek ladder were it not for Pokemon. I feel somewhat cheated, as the Game Boy games are good fun.

What, no LOTR? Isn't that considered geeky?

Thanks for that link, Alynna! I must be a low-grade geek, since I was completely unaware of the existence of "furries." I have no problem with them, though. As long as it's furry fun between mutually consenting adults, I say power to them!
But constantly spending my free time at an internet forum among other rabid SRD fans must surely count for some geek points...

I was thinking that too. The only place on the geek heirarchy that I fit in was the "Trekkies", and actually, I prefer "Trekker"..... and I don't write fan fic about it.But constantly spending my free time at an internet forum among other rabid SRD fans must surely count for some geek points...
The journey of a thousand miles begins with a broken fan belt and a leaky tire.
Kymbierlee, I just noticed your sig--that's hilarious!
I actually saw a rain dance once at the Native American cultural center in Santa Fe. Halfway through, there was a massive thunderstorm that dumped rain for five minutes solid and then stopped abruptly. The leader of the rain dance said that it'd never happened before!
