Finding Neverland

Post by Furls Fire »

Absolutely breathtaking. For those of you who have not seen this, please do. You will love it. Trust me.

For those of you thinking it's just another Peter Pan movie, you're mistaken. It's about James M. Barrie, the man who wrote Peter Pan and the beautiful children that inspired it...George, Jack, Peter and Michael Davies. You will lose yourself in this one...

"Tell me what's it like...Neverland.

"Someday, I'll take you there..

Don't forget the Kleenix :D
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

~this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you~

...for then I could fly away and be at rest. Sweet rest, Mom. We all love and miss you.

Aww, don't ruin it for me; I'm gonna watch it this weekend!
Dandelion don't tell no lies
Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion

I'm afraid there's no denying
I'm just a dandelion
a fate I don't deserve.

I just saw this last night. I liked it a lot, except for when parallels with current events and a certain pop star kept intruding.

A pop star? :? Taking a dig at Depp? I really enjoyed it--I didn't realize who his cricket friend was till I saw the ending credits

More like Depp (or the movie as a whole) taking a dig at those who take a dig at the pop star. If you can follow that ...

Way.
One problem with the otherwise excellent Finding Neverland is its title. Perhaps its Swiss director, Marc Forster, didn’t realize that many Americans would think the movie had something to do with Michael Jackson and so miss what is in fact a touching little biographical essay about the author of Peter Pan, J.M. Barrie, marvelously played by Johnny Depp, and his relationship with the Llewelyn-Davies family — in particular a boy named Peter (Freddy Highmore). But in a way it does have to do with Michael Jackson too. Article
(I figured I couldn't be the only one, so I searched the web, and voila!)

I loved Finding Neverland. It was beautiful and beautifully filmed.

I suppose you could draw a parallel to Michael Jackson--but it doesn't work for me.

Michael Jackson is....very mentally ill....

whereas J.M. Barrie was not.

It has nothing to do with Michael Jackson.

While I'm sure that reference is there
Spoiler
with the boys & Conan Doyle
if Barrie did have such an association stuffy Victorian England would take notice, regardless in 1903 as we do today. I agree it is a social issue of concern but I was watching a film about Barrie's life it never occured to me to give any creedence to or even acknowledge Whack-O.

Saw this last night, and I really enjoyed it as well. Surprisingly so, in fact, since I don't like Depp.

What he said. The connection didn't even cross my mind when I watched it last weekend.

Regardless, it was a great movie. Very well-done and touching.
