To Rowan from Rukh/The Effect of Re-reading the Books

Post by Rukh »

Rowan, I don't usually post in this forum, so I just now read the post you made about the effect the Chronicles had on you when you re-read them.
All I can say is that I am glad that someone else mentioned this so I don't feel like I am alone in the depth of reponse that these books evoked for me.
I read these stories for the first time between the ages of 12 to about the age of 14; I was stricken with incredible longing and the whole gamut of emtions that they evoked in you. I picked up this series just looking for some escapist fiction and was overwhelmed...It is literally impossible to describe everything that I went through when I read them, but yes, I can remember longing to be in the Land so strongly that I wept. When I started readin the second chronicles I was nearly unable to finish it, because I felt the destruction of the Land so acutely. (I was something of a pagan myself at the time, though I have since fallen away from that.) Everything about these stories were so real to me, especially the evolution of the character. They spoke to me in ways that I can never really explain. Many people speak of persons that altered their lives, and though I have had a number of experiences of that kind, I would have to say that these books were some of the most significant things that I have ever been a part of.
These are pale deaths which men miscall their lives...

Extremely well-said. Your last sentence is one of the Truths of my life.

As far as re-reading TCTC goes, I flat out say that it is impossible to get everything out of just one reading. Without question, you will notice and learn more with multiple readings.

And I know one Watcher who has not read the 2nd Chrons, figuring all the posts have revealed what happens anyway, so no need. Holy cow, how wrong can a person be?!?!?!?!?! 8O
