Phish!

Post by dANdeLION »

I have heard Phish compared to the Grateful Dead, so I haven't really made an attempt to listen to them. But the other day, a co-worker brought in a live double-cd, and I borroed it. Frankly, it's great! I don't know if the Dead is the closest thing to them, though; I hear more of a Zappa influence than anything.

I like some Phish, but after a while it grates my nerves. If you like jam music I recomend Widespead Panic-they jam and rock.I am amazed by their sense of knowing what the other players are about to do,they really play off of the building and release of tension. They are not as technically brilliant as Phish, but have more soul and the sum of the parts equals a wonderful whole.Oh yea I like The Dead too,and The Allman Brothers.

Well, I never really got into the Dead jams. Just too unstructured and aimless for me. As for the Allmans, I have only heard live jams done since '90, and while it has technical proficiency, I thought it was more of a jazz type thing than a blues thing, and ever since "I'm no Angel", Greg just doesn't do it for me. Talk about grating; "I'm no Angel" is as bad as Stevie Nick's "One Wing Dove"........argh.

and I find Blues Traveler maddening because they will take a good idea and sledgehammer it into the ground. I tend to like the shorter, more melodic Phish songs.

I think about 10 thousand people had to wake up and find something to do with the rest of their lives after Phish broke up.
