Huh? I thought all three Godfather films already existed on DVD. Have I been seeing only the VHS copies on store shelves? Heh, that tells you how much (or little) attention I pay to the Godfather. I fully admit I'm not a fan of the this movie saga, but I respect its importance to American cinema.

I have all 3 movies in one boxed set on DVD, so not sure why Foul is so pumped over this one.

I think I'll stick with my new 3-pack of Naked Gun dvd's. You want murderers? OJ Simpson is in it. You want the Mob? Joey Buttefueco is the head makeout guy..... :screwy:

Watched Parts II and III this weekend (got the DVD set for Xmas and am just now getting around to it).

III was not as bad as I remembered; some poor editing (the jump to the very last scene in the movie) and casting choices (Sofia Coppola is obviously bad, but George Hamilton is terrible is his own way - he looks like he's about to crack up in half of his scenes), but there are some good bits.

What confuses me, though, is Vincent (Andy Garcia's character). He's supposed to be Sonny's kid - but if that were the case wouldn't he be much older? In "The Godfather", isn't Sonny whacked in the late 40's?

Godfather stuff

First point regarding Godfather I, does everyone know that Rod Steiger was Francis Coppola's first choice to play the part of Don Vito Corelone. Steiger turned it down, and he said in interviews his refusal of the role was due to battles with chronic depression.

Regarding Vincent's age in Godfather III, well that movie is set in the late mid 1970s since it indirectly refers to the death of Pope Paul VI and the short papacy of John Paul I (historically that occured in 1978). So if one accepts the idea that Vincent's mom is the gal in the closet during Connie's wedding in Godfather I, and Connie's wedding occurs in 1946 or 1947 (maybe) since Michael is just getting out of the service at the time of the wedding, he attends in uniform and WWII is over. So given this timeline Vincent would be at the time Michael's induction into the order of knights (opening scene in Godfather III) would be 30 -32 yrs. old. And does it ever say in the movie how many years had pasted from the time of the events at the opera house, when Michael's and Kaye's daughter is shot by accident and Vincent assumes the position of Don, and the scene of Michael's death in the garden?

Excellent reasoning, and TMK no timeline is given from the opera house events to Michael's death (although by the look of Michael several years do pass.)
