Superfriends

Post by High Lord Tolkien »

Anyone remember the Superfriends?

My daughter is a big Wonder Woman fan.
I bought her the 1st series TV show DVD and she loves them all.
The new Justice League cartoon series also has WW in it and she's a strong powerful inteligent character who can hold her own with the baddest of the bad..
She also has the WW Barbie that recently came out too.
I thought it was great, a nice strong female superhero.

So back to the Superfriends, created circa 1970s.
My daughter, after watching about 6 episodes starts complaining that "all Wonder Woman does is use her lasso and get caught!" :-x

I kinda forgot that girls didn't kick much butt in the '70s.
Glad that changed!

Liked Superfriends a lot as a kid, but on watching some of it again recently...ugh, it's not pretty.

The new Justice League show is much better. I love the animation style, and I agree, Wonder Woman is fabulous in it!

Neither series use Batman appropriately, IMO.

 "Superfriends"... my friends and I still joke about that show, and the absolute silliness of the 'wonder-twins'... One could change into anything water-based and the girl could change into any avian...?
... "Form of an albatross!" ... "Form of ICE-TONGS!"
sad sad show...
What I remember is the trippy animated Spider-Man of the 70's. I think we calculated that there was only actually 27 different animated sequences of Spider-Man whcih were used over and over again...

OH... even worse, and by the same animation team was ROCKET ROBIN HOOD! ... "in the astounding years to come"...

stop me know or I will reminisce right back to birth...!

IIRC, the female Wonder Twin could change into any animal (not that that changes what you're saying in the slightest.)

"Form of a rhinocerous!"

"Shape of a waterfall!"

Spiderman, Spiderman,
Does whatever a spider can
Spins a web, any size,
Catches thieves just like flies
Look Out!
Here comes the Spiderman.

Is he strong?
Listen bud,
He's got radioactive blood.
Can he swing from a thread?
Take a look overhead
Hey, there
There goes the Spiderman.

In the chill of night
At the scene of a crime
Like a streak of light
He arrives just in time.

Spiderman, Spiderman
Friendly neighborhood Spiderman
Wealth and fame
He's ingnored
Action is his reward.

To him, life is a great big bang up
Whenever there's a hang up
You'll find the Spider man.

Oh, yeah! How could we forget this show? It was Spiderman & His Amazing Friends. Firestar was the female. Iceman was a funny guy, and pretty cool--naturally. I liked this show a lot! In fact, this may have been the last Saturday morning cartoon show that I watched with any regularity. By the early '80s I was moving on to other things.

:D I even found a site for the show: www.spider-friends.com/

heh...I am running a tabletop Vampire: the Masquerade game..one player net BOTCHED five CONSECUTIVE rolls, causing many, many problems for the group. When it was over, one player turned to the luckless one and said, "Bucket of ice! You're THAT Wonder Twin, the useless one!"

Some comedian talked about the WT years ago. "The girl was always turning into these outrageously powerful things. 'Form of - a 300-foot gorilla with a bazooka, who shoots flame out of its butt!!' And her brother says, 'Shape of - a squeegie! A piece of coal! You beat 'em up, sis, and I'll make 'em look like hobos!'"
All lies and jest
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest

How about the Superficial Friends? Super Friends satire making fun of Paris Hilton, the Olsen Twins, Lindsay Lohan and nicole Ritchie. It's hilarious, you can probably find them on YouTube, they're about 4 or 5 minutes per episode, I believe. Raw language and situations though, not for children
