That's a damn good list, though. I'd still have to work on Morn and Angus though - I'd probably replace them with:robo wrote:I suppose I'm just listing some of my favorite actors here...
Morn: Franka Potente (hopefully she can do an American accent)
Angus: Bruce Willis (uglified)
Nick: Johnny Depp
Holt: Ben Kingsley
Warden Dios: Anthony Hopkins
Mikka: Sigourney Weaver
Vector: Robert Duvall
Milos: Ralph Fiennes
Min: Jodie Foster
Hashi: Christopher Walken (a bit tall though)
Angus - Harvey Keitel (he has been so convincingly corrupt - see "Bad Lieutenant") though he's probably too old now.
Morn - Uma Thurman basically played this character in the "Kill Bill" duology.
I think Jude Law could maybe play Nick, but might be too pretty.

Sorry, I'm reading this catch-up style, so I'm responding to suggestions as I see them. I LOVE Whittaker as Vector - he has the requisite kindness and competence. No need to make the cast all-white, SRD would say "get the right person, regardless" I'm sure.extravirgin wrote:Vincent D'Onofrio would make and awesome Angus.
I agree with Sigourney and Mikka.
Vector - Forrst Whittaker
Nick - George Clooney
Holt - Christopher Walken

Re: Well...
I am 100% with you against Vin Diesel - no way does he have the acting chops to play this character. He can play superficial slimyness but I don't think he could look haunted - he's always too strong and heroic.Dutch wrote:I'm goin' out on a limb here: I know SRD wrote it but...I still don't agree. Sigourney as Sorus? Yes, I can see that. Vin Diesel as Angus? No. I just can't see it. (Sorry, Stephen) Mr. Diesel hasn't got a frog face, isn't fat and is not very loud, and last I checked his eyes were silvery, not yellow.I'm just going by what I read in the text. No, really!
But it is said, it's really up to the readers to visualize what they read. So my opinion isn't any more or less valid than someone else's, even the writer's. *smile*

In a movie, this doesn't matter at all. A good director can make this work. By the way, who would film this almighty mess? It would almost have to be a foreign director who could handle the darkness and griminess of it all.Cail wrote:Facially Sinise looks right, but he's too small for the way I picture Angus.
aha, here we go: Lars Von Trier (Dancer in the Dark)

Yeah, I never thought of Uma as Morn before. That's nearly perfect. Plus, she might be willing to go through the hardship of playing that character, as it would almost certainly get to you.
And Lars has definitely done this work in this area (like in say, "Breaking the Waves"). But I haven't seen him tinker in the world of Sci Fi. I wonder if he would.
I've never been able to figure out Angus. Steve Buscemi comes to mind for the physicality, if he'd gain some weight, but his acting style isn't it at all. I think his fangy teeth lend something that would be good for the character, but he is definitely too skinny, and he would have to totally change his usual acting style to become Angus. If he did it well, it would almost certainly be Oscar-worthy, but probably creep out so many people they couldn't see him in the same light.
As for Nick......

Ahh...a little too cheery.

Re-reading the series, I will share my casting choices thus far:
Angus: I can't help but 'see' that guy who played the fat bad guy in the Dune movie (by Lynch). THAT is Angus to me.
Nick: Brad Pitt, hands down
Morn: Anjelie Jolie (sp). She can be vulnerable, and we all know she can be cunning and strong!
Holt: a slightly younger John Malkovich
Warden Dios: Anthony Hopkins (another great choise someone stole from my brain)
Mikka: Jodi Foster
Min: Sharon Stone (I think of her from the role in 'The Quick & the Dead')
Hashi: Ben Kingsley

That would be Kenneth McMillan. And if he were younger, I would say he's an excellent choice.Usivius wrote:Angus: I can't help but 'see' that guy who played the fat bad guy in the Dune movie (by Lynch). THAT is Angus to me.
She's certainly one of the few women capable of playing such a complex role.Usivius wrote:Morn: Anjelie Jolie (sp). She can be vulnerable, and we all know she can be cunning and strong!
Um ... that would be SRD.Usivius wrote:Warden Dios: Anthony Hopkins (another great choise someone stole from my brain)
Good going. I'd forgotten she is getting up to the years where she could play this.Usivius wrote:Min: Sharon Stone (I think of her from the role in 'The Quick & the Dead')

But seriously, somehow I've always pictured him like that.

Hmm, I'm liking a lot of these new suggestions actually. Without looking back at all the other cast lists I've posted I'm gonna make a new one:
Angus: After seeing Sin City I think Micky Rourke would be just perfect.
Morn: Franke Potente is one of my favourite actresses at the moment, and I think she could do a great job. Jennifer Connelly though, is an accomplished actress who looks so much like I imagined Morn.
Nick: I'm not gonna budge from Cole Hauser. I can't think of anyone else who can be both dashing and sleazy at the same time. Essential for Nick I feel.
Warden: Ben Kingsley. He's perhaps too slight of build to play either Warden or Holt, but he has a calmly rational air that I associate more with the former.
Holt: I find I keep coming back to Michael McKean and I don't really know why.
Mikka: I quite like Lisa Ryder from Andromeda for this part. She really exudes the big, strong and incredibly competent woman thing as Beka.
Vector: It's interesting that you should suggest Forest Whittaker. I initially imagined Vector as black and was surprised to find out, on my second reading, that he is blond with blue eyes. I'd like to see Whittaker in the role though.
Milos: As far as I'm concerned, Wayne Knight is Milos Taverner (well, in appearance and manner anyway).
Sorus: I think Sigourney Weaver would be good, but I suppose that's dependent on whether you find her attractive or not.
Min: I'd never thought of Jodie Foster, but she's another one of my favourites. I can imagine a few of Min's scenes where that clenched jaw thing she does would be great.
Hashi: Another tough one, I think Edward Woodward would be good but I don't think he's working on films anymore.

Nav, I'll go with you on Ben Kingsley, but I would be more inclined to put him as Holt. Holt's Napoleon complex suggests he could be small. My first choice for Holt, Stephen McHattie, is also small.
Anyway, Ben Kingsley can do anything.
I could never choose a Mykka. Radha Mitchell is the best I could do. Lisa Ryder is a good choice too.
I'm not sure, but I think I was the first one on KW to suggest Forrest Whitaker as Vector. I know I was the first one on the SRD Yahoo list. He's perfect.
I think everyone's suggestions for Min are too young. FORBIDDEN KNOWLEDGE:

There hasn't been much conversation on it since I came here. Khaliban and I were the steady posters, and neither of us has said anything there in quite some time.
