Who would you cast for Dr. Strange?
Even tho my dream for a decent Daredevil movie fell a little short-I'd really like to see Dr. Strange made into a movie. It wouldn't, by any means, be easy. If I has a spare 150million dollars I'd produce it, but what would it take and who would you cast? I really can't think and you're not allowed to nominate Billy "The Phantom" Zane

Dr. Strange is one of the easiest and oddly enough most difficult characters to visiualize on screen. Portraying a sorcerer is nothing new to hollywood but portraying one that exists in a realm of superheroes is another matter entirely. I never thought they'd find a perfect Wolverine but Hugh Jackman made any other choice insulting. I think Strange should be in his mid 40s or so and the actor should project knowledge and confidence like nobody's business. I wouldn't mind and English actor but an example escapes me.
danlo's suggestion of Billy Zane is interesting but something out Zane doesn't seem to fit what I visualize for the character.
Here are some interesting Strange links I ran across while looking for recent movie info.

About David Goyer:
"In another case of positive spin control (an art Goyer has mastered over the years), the filmmaker may turn an adaptation of the Marvel comic book DR. STRANGE into the second project of his Dimension deal.
“I did a draft at Columbia and then the project went into turnaround,” says Goyer. “Dimension just picked it up and I have an option to write and direct DR. STRANGE based on what happens with MURDER MYSTERIES."

I was, sorta, joking about Billy Zane--he does have a bit of a strange/exotic look to him. On your advice I did a brief search of British actors and out of the "classic" contemporary category only Kenneth Braghnan came close--he does have great range and with the proper makeup and hair---hmmm--possible...

Really? I mean sure, there was that point after the accident robbed him of the ability to perform surgery and he took to alcohol that that guy looks like him, but I think a more clean-cut actor should take the role.
Maybe Adrien Brody

Good shot of Branagh, danlo. He definitely looks the part there.
Adrien Brody? Nah. Since he likes to French-kiss Halle Berry, he should star opposite her in Catwoman II or something.
I've never read any Dr. Strange comics, he just "guest-starred" in other comics titles I read. But I always thought he was the coolest-looking Marvel dude. He is one sharp-dressed man.
If a Dr. Strange movie is ever made, I can only hope it will truly be magical and mystical, and not try to bludgeon the audience with narcissistic levels of "gritty" realism.

Adrien Brody definately looks the part.
I've never seen him act or heard him speak though.
Though I would LOVE to see a Dr Strange flick (he's always been one of my favorites) I shudder to think about how Hollywood would ruin him beyond recognition for me.
The cape would be gone (too much like Superman).
Wong would be a black girl teenager full of angst and doubt about magic.
Baron Mordo would be some kind of sorcerer druglord or corporate CEO trying to take over the world.
Clea would be the nonpowerful love interest.
The Ancient One would be a beautiful young woman.
And Dr. Strange will be weak and ineffective. Struggling to learn his way through much of the movie and only able to activate the needed Eye of Agamotto in the last scene with the help of Wong and Clea.
ALTHOUGH... the success of the Potter films and the wonderful portrayal of magic there I do have more hope than a few years ago that they might do it right.

Sorry.
She's just not my type.
Can I switch her out with Jessica Alba perhaps?

Who, keeping this on topic, would make a great Clea, imo.
Or Wong.
Or the Ancient One.
Or......

Funny, I always thought Batman had a thing for Catwoman......I can't believe you walked into that one, West.

Spoiler
I don't care who they get for Dr. Strange; I just want to see the so-called Master of the Mystic arts pull a friggin rabbit out of his hat just once.......I mean, is he a magician or isn't he?

Has anyone seen the recent 6-part mini of Dr. Strange? It was kinda cool. The art was very nice. It was a whole retelling of his beginning, and Clea and Wong were a lot different too.
I think I mentioned once before that there actually was a Dr. Strange movie maaaaaaaaaany years ago. I saw it on tv as a kid, and loved it to death. That was before I had read any comic books at all. There have been some really great stories in the comic over the years. My favorite being when he killed Dracula and all vampires. Anyway, I saw the movie again recently, and it was horrid beyond all measure. Absolute trash. Ah well...

Hmm, I never looked for it on the net before. How about this:
www.docstrange.com/newsnreviews/drsmovie.asp
And apparently it was a made-for-tv movie, written by Steve Englehart:

That Dr. Strange tv movie came out about the time they did those six Spiderman episodes, and the way more successful Hulk tv show. They may have even attempted a Fantastic Four movie, but I can remember. Probably wishful thinking on my part.

I vaguely remember that TV movie. What can I say? It seemed cool at the time, but then, a lot of things on TV seem cool when you're an 8-year old.
Thanks for the link, Fist. No, really, I mean that! I actually am fond of a lot of stuff from the late 70's. Doesn't necessarily mean I want a return of all things late 70's, I'm just fond of the stuff I grew up with.
