Hardest game and hardest part of a game.
What is the hardest game you have ever played and what bit(of any game) did you find really hard.
The two hardest games I have played is Command & Conquer: Retaliation and Vagrant Story.
The hardest part in a game was the last boss in Star Ocean 2.

Hardest game? Myst... but maybe that's because I played it when I was about 11. Or maybe because I don't have the patience for push the button... walk to the other side of the island... pull the lever... walk back... push another button... and on into infinity.
Hardest part of any game is whenever you've done everything you can think of and you don't know what to do next but you have to do something

I think the hardest game I've played is probably Stuntman. All it takes is one tiny mistake and you have to wait for the level to reload, watch the walkthrough again and then try and drive the whole level. Infuriating.
Hardest part of a game, that'll be the final level of Star Wars: Starfighter. I tried so mant times, but it's just too easy to get killed once you're inside the Trade Federation ship. I just used the invincibility cheat in the end.

A. Because proper tea is theft.

Hardest game I ever played was some spaceship flying game on the megadrive. It's easy until you die once, but then you come back with all your ship upgrades gone and the moment you run into a boss there's no way to win because you do so little base damage.
Hardest bit of any game ever? I'm not sure really, after a few tries I generally manage to get through anything. I've never used a cheat to finish a game (to do so would defeat the entire object of playing)

i've pretty much finished all the games I've put my mind to. BUT, one Xbox game has stimied me. Granted it is not a RPG or anything like that. It's Burnout 2... there are a number of races with this F-1 type car that are just IMPOSSIBLE to finish. I crash out too many times! I've done all the 'crash' and 'road rage' games, but can't finish these darn races!!!!

Hmm, I didn't find Burnout 2 especially difficult on the PS2. I know I didn't get all golds on the final race series, but I didn't need to in order to unlock the last few cars and tracks. I remember that the super car was the key, it was so stable under boost that you could hold down R1 and do entire laps at full speed, in the face of oncoming traffic.
Doubt I could've done it in another car though.

Nah, Return of the King was actually pretty easy once you figured out the combos... unlike other beat-em-ups, the combos are actually more effective than random button mashing!

Hardest part of any game ever: Ninja Gaiden for the NES, there's one part.....start of last level....my friends and I dubbed it "The Rain Of Stupid Ninjas...falling=death. There are several ledges, walk along, jump to next (game si side-scroll)...at one point, there is a jump to make..just barely within range, little margin for error..there's an enemy on your destination ledge, who lobs projectiles in high arcs...if it hits you in midair, you plummet...there's also a fast moving enemy running on the ledges materializes behind you as you approach the jump....and lastly, there's a swooping eagle that appears...you need to time the jump between lob-shots, attack in mid-air anticipating eagle appearance perfectly, land, attack and kill lobber (hopefully lob-boy is at the back edge of this ledge), and IMMEDIATELY leap straight up so runner will pass under you. fail any one of these segments, and get knocked off and fall to your death.
the first time I got there, it took me over an hour, LITERALLY, to get past this part. about a minute and half on next continue to get to TROSN (the Rain Of Stupid Ninjas)..and die. Next life start point is one screen away, so like ten seconds to get the TROSN....and die.

Good one, Seven Words. I never did beat Ninja Gaiden. Came close, but I mistakenly told the friend I was borrowing it from that I almost had it and he suddenly wanted the game back.
Not exactly the hardest game overall, but Mike Tyson on Mike Tyson's punch out is difficult even on reduced speed on an emulator. Probably my vote for the hardest end boss ever.

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Hardest RPG? Hands down, the Lunar II remake for playstation. That thing was a BEAST. (Also a HELL of a game!) Note that I'm talking about hardest game to beat, not a game with difficult sidequests.
If you want to talk about most difficult single fight in a non-action game... Weigraf/Velius in Final Fantasy tactics STILL crushes me at least a couple of times. Not to mention the fact that if your birthday is in the wrong place, you are facing a MUCH harder fight. (Capricorns are screwed). If you have played the game, you have to know the fight I'm talking about. Ramza faces Weigraf in single combat. You the fight comes in the middle of a sequence, so unless you left a spare save out in the world map, you cant leave and go level up. You are typically left with only the resources you have at the start of the fight, which can lead to some insane strategies to try and beat him. I know people who have had to start new games because they just couldn't beat him with their level/gear/job setups.
As far as action games... im going to narrow this down to actually *good* games, because there are plenty of unbeatable terrible games for the NES. (Anyone play the Silver Surfer game?) Zombies ate my Neighbors is insanely fun and ridiculously hard. There are something like 70 levels. Once, I managed to make it as far as 50. (I was on a role, I ended up like 15 levels deeper than I had EVER been.) I have YET to meat someone who beat it or made it farther than me. Of course, the infamous punch out... Contra is BRUTAL unless you cheat.
Has anyone out there played Galactic Civilizations 2 with the AI turned up? Its deviously brutal. I have NEVER played a game with AI as good as that game's is.
