Really, really, really, really good movie! 8O Holy cow! Intense. Terrifying. More realistic (unfortunately) than I've often seen in person (fortunately).

For those who don't know, it's about various people, of various ethnicities, in L.A., and the role racism, often intense racism, plays in their lives.

I happened to be on the other side of the aisle from a pair of black women. One was a little louder than usual. Not yelling, but getting loud at intense moments. When the closing credits started, I heard her tell her friend, "Everybody in the theater should hug somebody else now." As I finished putting my jacket on, she stepped past me, and I said, "I heard you. Get over here." She smiled, held up her arms, and we had a big hug. Then her friend wanted one too. The movie had its high points and low points, and I'm not sure what feeling anybody else had when they walked out. But the hug made it an incredibly positive thing for me. :D |G

Anyway, the acting was incredible!!! Yes, even Sandra Bullock was great!

I don't doubt her greatness--just her taste in what movies she stars in (Miss Congeniality, anyone?)

I got about a third through Crash and distractions and the prolific cursing made me shelve it for later. It is a very intense, realistic and interesting movie, so far-please convince me I should see it through, thanks...

Hugging strangers just like that? Radical! What you did was awesome, man. I don't think I would've had the nerve to do it.

Rented it about a month ago. Good concept, but so-so execution, IMHO.

The acting was good and the message was good, but the plot was way too contrived for the sake of delivering that message and at least one part made absolutely no sense at all.

::shrug::

I can't say it was a bad movie, but it definitely could have been done a lot better, especially when dealing with such a hot-button issue.

Just watched it on DVD - very good film, but not one you can watch whilst doing something else - blink and you'll miss a good bit.

A very cleverly put together film, if a little too obvious at times.

I didn't care for it. I thought it was overly preachy and very, very transparent.

But I do like looking at Sandra Bullock, even though she's degrading herself with that nitwit cokehead Jesse James.

Just finished watching this movie. I agree with Cail, it was a bit preachy, but I do think Matt Dillon deserves his nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

yeah...i saw it...

i've never had any trouble myself and i keep my movies for a couple of weeks sometimes.

i know i should care more, but i don't. netflix is too CONVENIENT!!! :lol:

I agree that Netflix is convenient. I've suspected for some time that something like throttling was going on (I didn't know the term for it, however.) Now that my suspicions have been confirmed I'm considering canceling my subscription.

wow. all i can say about the wreck/rescue scene. whoa. 8O

i totally understand the hugs in the theater, Fist!!!! whoa.




i was a bit disappointed that a couple of things in the close of the film were a bit predictable. the only criticism i can make of the film tho. the first half was fairly brilliant! dynamic script. excellent high volume lacerating self exposure by all the actors. but truly, both the intense scenes between Dillon and Newton just floored me.

no...definitely NOT the same film as Cronenberg's.


and in reply to some of the other comments about this film, i did not find it preachy in the least. i did find some predictable devices used toward the end of the film but preachy? no.
