I saw this last night,

www.hostelfilm.com/

Far from being scary, i found many parts of this film quite fuuny.
However, it was possibly the most gruesome film i have ever seen.

Enjoyable.
But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.

i'm going to see this tonight. well, either this or the new Spike Lee one.
i thought it would be really scary. whatever Tarantino turns his hand to is usually excellent. anyway, i'll say what i think of it on the weekend.
It'd take you a long time to blow up or shoot all the sheep in this country, but one diseased banana...could kill 'em all.

I didn't even know sheep ate bananas.

I'd really like to see this, but I'm not into the whole torture thing. I may try it on DVD, but I'm unsure how far I can make it through it.

I've heard it's excellent, though.

The start did remind me of a teen movie like American Pie.

this film just made me feel uncomfortable. you really need to be 'in the mood' to watch it. the start is supposed to be like a yank road trip, american pie sort of movie i think. it kind of takes the p*ss out of those movies by taking the ideas behined them to the extreme.

As I've said elsewhere, I enjoyed the film, but found it nowhere near as gruesome as ads and such suggested. The camera nearly always cuts away at the last minute.

I think this movie was an homage to the 70s horror flicks (without being a complete repackaging). Yeah, the first 20 minutes was nothing but a flesh fest (but good, if you like that kind of thing). And there really wasn't all that much torture... like Murrin said, very little was on screen. There were a few gruesome shots of the aftereffects, though. The only real gripe I had with it was that a lot of the supporting character motivations didn't feel genuine.

Like why the hell was the guy with the thing on his lip back in town just in time to get hit by the car? Presumably, it was to pick up his payment, but it all seemed like... a tour de force. And why is it that I can buy rich dudes paying to kill people, but a nearly endless stream of hot chicks (addicts?) and such luring people to their death seems a bit too much... really working that whole black widow/misogyny angle too hard
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”
