Gene Colan - Memorable dramatic motion

Largely thanks to being a fan of Iron Man and collecting the later issues of Tales of Suspense, I became a fan of Gene Colan's art. His basic style is similar to his contemporaries but Gene added a dimension of dramatic motion and stark shading that really made his work stand out for me.
It seemed that every book he illustrated was transformed by his approach whether it be Tales of Suspense, Daredevil, Dr. Strange, Tomb of Dracula or even Howard the Duck, Gene's art added weight and dimension that was remarkable.

Oh! Oh! A Tomb of Dracula page, uninked! What a treasure!

I'm a big fan of Gene Colan. I owned two sets of the entire run of Tomb of Dracula at one point. His best work is so expressionist it's almost surreal -- the anatomy gets pretty fanciful at times -- but it's always powerful and persuasive. His is a look unlike any other, I think.

Heh, Colon was da bomb!
Dandelion don't tell no lies
Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion

I'm afraid there's no denying
I'm just a dandelion
a fate I don't deserve.
