Yes, Darkseid would be an awesome foe! I only know him from his appearance in Dr. Fate (a defunct title), but he was a cool badass there. Have not read any Superman stories featuring Darkseid (because I haven't read a whole lotta Superman).

Holy cow... Darkseid is a very important figure in the DC universe.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darkseid
My intro to him was, oddly, in the Legion of Superheroes. He came back 1,000 years in the future (which is the Legion's time) in one of the coolest epics of all comicdom! What a fantastic story!

DAMN SKIPPY! That's also where I was introduced to Darkseid, and where my love of LOSH began. That was a damn good story!
The conclusion is inescapable, my friends ..... we face Darkseid.

If they do Darkseid, I hope it's not like X-Men 3's rendition of Juggernaut, which was basically a large British man in S&M gear.

Strangely, that wikepedia article about Darkseid doesn't mention the LOSH story (or did I miss it?)

I don't know if it's been mentioned before, but technically Stamp has been brought back - in a bit of casting genius, he's voicing Jor El over in Smallville.

Shows you how much I follow Smallville...not a lot. Thanks for the info, Plissken. Stamp doing Jor-El? Ha ha!

Thanks for the link, Fist. Everything I wanted to know about Darkseid but was too dumb to ask.
Darkseid posesses superhuman physical attributes that rival those of Superman. He has proven capable of overpowering the mighty demon Etrigan, and the planet destroying being known as Lobo once hurt his hand when he landed a punch on Darkseid.
Overpowering Etrigan? Too bad I missed that. And Lobo hurting his hand. Heh, what a wild 'n' crazy guy. But since when did Lobo become a planet destroyer? Never mind, I'll spend the night clicking all the links in that Wikipedia article. I'm way out of touch with what's going on in comics.

Darkseid never really displayed any power in the Dr. Fate story, just his personal authority as ruler of his world. He presented his "honourable" side in that story. Now that I'm aware of just how powerful Darkseid is (even the toned-down version), it would have been interesting to see him go toe to toe with the sorcerer supreme, but it just wasn't meant to be. (Sorry, just plugging a favorite DC superhero of mine. The good Doctor doesn't get any respect, I tell ya.)

Darkseid's Omega Beam sounds like a variation on the Disintegrator Beam, the ultimate weapon of the Destroyer (from The Mighty Thor).

I don't know alot about Etrigan, but in the 2nd Superman Doomsday story arc (Hunter/Prey,) Doomsday kicked Darkseid's ass all over Apokolips, and nearly killed him.

I didn't read the wiki article, but I'm not surprised it's not there. Most LSH stories seem to be hypothetical. Then the original Crisis messed things up so bad that, afaik, the Great Darkness Saga never even happens to the Legion, much less to the future of the present DC universe.

Some incarnations of Fate are among my very favorite characters too! He's awesome!!

Actually, the Omega Beam can perform various tasks, not just destroy. In that LSH story, he used it to send Superboy back to his own time.

I gotta read that Doomsday stuff again. Fun stuff! heh Anyway, my intro to Etrigan was in Alan Moore's fantastic run on Swamp Thing. He was very cool there, and I think that's the first time we heard about the ranks of Hell's demons, with Etrigan being a Rhymer. Sounds silly, but Moore wrote him some great rhymes! :D

I found the 3rd Doomsday series on ebay last week and it came in the mail yesterday. It's called "The Doomsday Wars." I'll let you know if they're any good. The "Hunter/Prey" series is incredible, great art throughout, with the origin of Doomsday. It's a must read!

I have Hunter/Prey, and Doomsday's origin was pretty cool. 8O  I was just making sure I was remembering the right one, so I looked at amazon.com. The reviews there are a tad bit less favorable than yours.
:LOLS:

I'm not at all familiar with Doomsday Wars. Is it a novel?

Ah yes, I just looked, and see that we have touched upon this before. Levitz and Giffen at their collaborative best!!! And I think we need a LSH thread in Comics! :D :D :D

Doomsday Wars is a 3 issue set, like Hunter/Prey.

I'm all about an LSH thread! Start one and I'll jump in!
