Favorite all-time horror flick is Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. Many probably think of it as just another tedious, drawn-out Kubrick opus, but that's all right. I also know that Stephen King himself did not much care for this adaptation of his novel, and that's okay, too. It's still an awesome movie to me.
I agree, I think Kubrick was in top form on this flick, and it had a creepiness that the later adaptations couldn't touch.

I think the Exorcist III is near the top, even better than the original.

My all time favorite Horror movie though is the Changeling (George C Scott), which is more of a ghost story than a horror movie.

Serpent and the Rainbow, now there's one that really sent shivers up my spine, Jacobs Ladder too for that matter.

Blair Witch the original really lost it's flair when it was sold as being true, and then exposed as a fraud, but, the Sequel is awesome, so now you got 3 of us loving the sequel.

Awesome as in, sends chills up your spine, seeing the video around the campfire. But not so disturbing (Saw, last House on the Left, High tension, Hunting Humans) it makes you afraid to go out your front door that people can be that twisted.

Blair Witch creeps me out, but not as much as it would if it hadn't been locally produced. They were tromping around some of my old haunts for half the movie. Hard to be scared when you know that if they just hang a right, they'll get to the power lines and be home free. ;)

Don't generally like scary movies. My imagination's active enough as it is without the graphic slasher/exploding head crap thrown in. Alien was great, though. 8)

I love both Jaws and Near Dark, but oddly don't consider either one to be horror.

JAWS is what i would call a "thriller", rather than "horror".

Yeah, and I think I'd put Near Dark in the same catagory.

Near Dark is a kick-ass movie.

Is that the one with Lance Henrickson as the leader of a family of Vampires? If so, 'tis good.

I like the vampire flick with John Bon Jovi as the beastly undead. It is was role that REQUIRED him to suck.

(apologies to Truimph the Insult Comic Dog)

Actually I never saw that one.

A really good vampire flick? Rent the orginal UNCUT version of Salem's Lot! Creepy!!!!

Poltergeist - the original.......gave me nightmares for years after I saw it as a kid. To be honest its probably the reason I don't watch much horror now....don't want to go through that again.

I still check in the mirror to make sure my face is in tact after I wash it.
