The end of the Christmas season

Post by Lord Mhoram »

is a rather melancholy affair, isn't it?

The night of Christmas itself always brings me down.

Are you kidding? I'm always too drunk on xmas night to be down. ;)

Besides, this time of year signals a countdown to the time when tinsle and baubles and all the other horrible things about the season are taken down. Woohoo!

It's sort of bttersweet. Eventually my brothers need to leave and I always really miss them. On the plus side, I get to see them, so It's always really great.

It is mixed feeling. Though Christmas spells lots of horrible songs and spending money... you do get to see all your family, everyone is happy and having fun plus the day feels a bit special.

My wife's family is over at our house for all holiday celebrations. We are kind of the central spot that is easiest for everyone to get to.

As I am typing this post, I have 18 scattered adults, children and toddlers lying throughout my house.

It was a late night...

I love 'em, but Christmas is over...

Yeah, but once the stocking and pressents are open, the kids begin to return to normal.

I was going to post the same thing.

Our neighbors growing up always invited my sister and me over to a 'Little Chr-tmas' celebration on Epiphany. They did Chr-tmas Day all over again, on a smaller scale. Gifts, stocking, festive meal, the works.

Then they would take us with their ids to the Three Kings Parade in Little Havana.

The next day, the tree and decorations would come down. I'm still always amazed at the number of trees and decorations that are down by NYE!

But then, this family is where I learned to not buy a tree until the week before Chr-stmas to allow it to open, and to not decorate it or turn on the lights until Chr-stmas Eve. They celebrated the Advent season first, so they weren't tired of the decorations by the time Chr-stmas itself arrived...

As far as I'm concerned, it's over.

And I praise the Lord for the fact.

So when does the tree need to come down? I keep getting that wrong. I once left outside christmas lights hanging around for about 5 months AFTER christmas :)

I didn't know there was an official time. Ours always comes down on January 10th, just by our own tradition.

At my house the tree comes down when I'm darn good and ready...usually the later I have a chance to put it up, the later it stays up but minimum is Jan 7th.

Tree? Lights? What is this madness of which you speak?

The last time we "decorated" for Christmas, we never actually took the decoration down. It's been sitting there for about 2 years now.

Of course, all it consisted of was put a Santa's elf hat on the cardboard Legolas cutout that stands in the back of the living room...

Yeah, we're that bad. And proud of it.

I had no christmas decorations. I'd rather spend my money on gifts . . .

That's uh... hot.

Can I come live with y'all?? I promise to stop using the word "hot"- and I'm small and will fit in a closet!
