Smashing Pumpkins
So its official, for a few months now, the Pumkpins are back together....ish. Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain are both part of the band, along with two Unnamed members playing bass and guitar respectivley.
I dont know whether or not the quality will be Pumpkins, but it should be interesting.

Wasn't Chamberlain kicked out of the band for being a smack addict? Odd that he'd be back.

...Also he's the only one who Billy didn't sub-in for on Siamese Dream.
I've read interviews with both of them, they seem to really click together.
Once he was clean he was invited back into the band.
What I find strange, is that Billy does all the writting...so who cares what the name of the band is...if James and D'Arcy aren't in it, they might as well have called it Zwan again...or another Billy Corgan Solo--don't get me wrong, the Pumkins are in my top Three for favorite Rock Bands...so let's hope it sounds more like the PUmkins stuff (and Less like Zwan's)
The MelonCollie albums are my Fav.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. Yeah, he was shooting up with one of their roadies, and the roadie od'd and died, so they booted him out of the band for a while. This was when they were really hot. They had to delay their tour for 3 months or so. They ended up doing a matinee show on a tuesday (I think) in a small club in chicago (the metro) to get things going again. I was lucky enough to call in and get tickets right after they announced the show the night before it took place. It was pretty cool, although I wouldn't say that they were the best live act I've ever seen. Billy Corgan is pretty weird. He had just shaved his head, and looked like Uncle Fester from the Addams Family (or the Munsters). Believe me, it's not a good look for a 6'6" or so awkward, pasty-faced white dude. And several times during guitar solos, he would spit up into the air onto his fretboard, and rub the spit into his guitar strings. I gotta tell you, it was a major turn-off. I think that that show was the main reason I stopped listening to the Pumpkins. Well, along with them deciding to become and electro-pop band.Cail wrote:Wasn't Chamberlain kicked out of the band for being a smack addict? Odd that he'd be back.
Whelp, though I'm not positive of it's accuracy, SP's first concert will be at the Rock am Ring 6/2/2007 and the Rock im Park 6/3/2007 in Germany. I checked the Rock am Ring website and it seems to check out.
Anyone know a cheap way to get to Germany?

Heh. Very true.
P.S., If I happen to come across the bootleg I'll let you and everyone else on here know. I'm a member at a site called DimeADozen.org where people post dozens of high quality boots every day. Not copyrighted either! So chances are a high-profile Pumpkins show would find its way there.

Check out the new Pumpkins single, "Tarantula."
It has by far exceeded by expectations - it is actually pretty damn good.

It rocks. Of course, I think it sounds kind of like GnR's Pretty Tied Up as done by Billy Corgan.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

I really don't know anything of the Smashing Pumpkins, except for a tune Balon sent me the other night. I have to admit, I found it much more listenable than I would have thought.
And the lyrics (once he sent me a transcription of them, as I couldn't make them out on my wimpy computer speakers) were beautiful...

What was the Song Menolly?
