Generic kids' movie thread

Considering those are pretty much the only movies I see these days.

Anyway...

TMNT. I was pleasantly surprised by how good this movie was. I loved the cartoon as a kid. And I only specify 'as a kid' because the new version just seemed off to me. But anyway, the movie's surprisingly faithful to the original cartoon's spirit.

At first, the style of the animation threw me, but you get used to it, especially when you consider it's a CGI revisioning of a cartoon story. And in a few scenes, you can really tell they put a lot of work into it. Like some trees in blossom waving in the wind during a fight scene or rain drops sliding down a turtle face.

The voice acting was great. I could even swear they had mostly the same voice actors from the original cartoon, except maybe Raph who sounded like the king of the Bronx. Patrick Stewart... what needs to be said? If anyone's familiar with Mako, he did the voice of Splinter. Man, I'm really gonna miss that guy as the voice of Uncle Iroh on Avatar, and he was awesome as the voice of Aku in Samurai Jack.

The down side - well, no Shredder, for one (or Bebop or Rocksteady, though there are some Foot). It really lacked a strong bad guy. There were thirteen mythic-type beasts, but you only really see two of them in action. Seemed more of a plot device for the video game rather than something needed in the movie. They could've beefed up the parts of the four generals. I'm hoping some extra footage will show up in the DVD version.

Anyway, I liked it, my boy (4) liked it, and the wife liked it. There ya go.

Took my 7-year old grandson to see "Happy Feet" last month.
It was surpisingly good and it sure held my grandson's attention throughout the entire film. (A rarity)
