Tampa Area Watchers, HELP!!!

Post by Menolly »

OK, OK, I am coming right out and blatantly admitting it...I have lost my freaking mind!!!

:::deep breath:::

I have volunteered to drive and be the sole chaperone for five 8th grade boys from the youth group at the shul (Beorn will be one of them) to go to Adventure Island Park on Sunday. I don't know Tampa at all.

The driving directions on the website are here. Is this the best way to go? I've heard something about going a different way through Crystal River I think? Does anyone know of the route I mean, and if it is a better way to go? I would need to know the same information to get to TPA for my flight to Elohimfest anyway...

TIA!!

I'm assuming this direction is what you'd follow:
Travel SOUTH on I-75 to I-275 SOUTH to the FOWLER AVENUE exit (Exit #51, formerly Exit #34). Turn east (left) onto Fowler Avenue and proceed 2.5 miles to McKinley Drive. Turn south (right) onto McKinley and proceed to the main parking lot entrance.
I don't see why you'd go anywhere near Crystal River; then again, I don't know how far you live from I-75. In any event, those directions are good; Sunday morning traffic is nice enough that you won't have any problems. If you feel you'll get lost, I can always pm you my cell number; I live about a mile away from the park, so I'd know how to steer you.

:::vigorously nodding:::

Would two and a half hours be enough time to plan for the drive each way to and from Gator Town?

Actually, I'm three miles east of I-75, so Crystal River is way the heck out of my way. But I have heard there is a nicer drive with less traffic, and which may actually be a shortcut if traffic is heavy on the interstate, along the coast. I don't remember if I would go to Crystal River to get to it though, nor do I remember the state road number or causeway name anymore.

Thanks dAN, that would be sincerely welcome.

I still can't believe I volunteered to give myself this stress. I have officially lost my mind...

I see no reason to avoid I-75 on a Sunday. going up 41 is scenic, but a heck of a lot slower. 2 1/2 hours sounds like plenty of time.

Keep picking on me, and I may direct you to the 2001 Odyssey instead of Adventure Island.....I'm sure your boys would enjoy that place!

Geez dAN, I work quite often in the area of Busch Gardens.
Maybe we can get together sometime and ride a few coasters
and have a beer or two.
Menolly, these directions are accurate.
The Crystal River way may be leading you
onto the Suncaost Parkway (a toll road) that goes to Tampa.
I-275 would be a better route for you.

If you'd like me to, I can PM my cell phone number to you also,
I'm sure that between dAN & I, you'll get to where you need.

The Suncoast Parkway is the one I heard about!

So, I-275 is better on a Sunday morning and evening? What about when Paul drives me to TPA early afternoon (we'll head southwest about 12:30) on a Thursday for my flight to Elohimfest?

I'm getting ready to head out. I've decided I am not going to do the water stuff. I'll take advantage of the down times between meeting up with the boys (if I can) and continue to wade my way through The Stand.

Thanks again, dAN and Cheval!

Uhm...

By bringing The Stand with them?

However, by 3:30 I was sweltering in my t-shirt and jeans (no air conditioned place to sit that I saw) and Beorn talked me in to having two full buckets of water drenched down on me. After that, I felt much better...

And I had two more hours to walk around and drip dry before getting in the van to drive home.

I called dAN's cell once we arrived to let him know I found it OK. I am worried I dialed a wrong number as I got voice mail and didn't recognize the name. So, dAN, I hope I didn't leave you hanging all day! But, I did leave a message on whomever's cell it was I called.
