I really like the Scorpions, though they did pull one big boner with their original Virgin Killers album cover.....

I'm just full of surprises, huh Don? ;)

Actually, I was telling danlo that I saw the Scorpions as part of the Monsters of Rock tour at Miami's Orange Bowl when Paul and I first got together, so it must have been late '80s sometime. The headliner was Van Halen with Sammy Hagar, and that's who I went to see. But...

...although they didn't have the special affects Van Halen had, and appeared mid-afternoon with terrible lighting, the Scorpions were the best act of the tour, IMHO. Totally blew me away.

I don't have any of their music myself. And I am not a fan of metal. But, on the rare occasions I'm scanning stations and I come across a Scorpions (or Metallica, BION) song, I will stop the scan and play it through. I can't do more than one at a time though.

Anyway, danlo thought that was reason enough to bump the thread.

The Scorps were awfully good at MOR (it was summer of '88).

I hadn't seen that album cover in years (like 25 or so). Thought it was funny when I was 13, it's pathetic now.

Ahhh...so it was right after Paul and I got together, as we met in October of '87 and married in March of '88...

Did you see the same lineup, Cail? The Orange Bowl show had:

Kingdom Come
Dokken (who Paul went to see)
Scorpions
Metallica (who Paul also went to see) and
Van Halen (who I went to see)

As I said, in both Paul's and my opinion, the Scorpions were the highlight of the show, even though we both initially went to see other groups.

That's who all I remember, anyway. If there was anyone else it's lost in an LSD induced trippy memory...

Yep, it was the same show. I thought Dokken was excellent, could've done without Metallica.

Paul loved Dokken as well. They didn't do much for me.

I agree about Metallica's performance, but I still like being able to say I saw them once...

They come from Hannover, about 50km away from my place. Back in the days I met them a few times in the clubs over here. Rudolph Schenker has about three brain cells (and on a good day one of them is even working) and Klaus Meine is a complete jerk who thinks no end of himself.

Not to speak of their English - "Still loving You"? My grammar book says "still" is a signal word for simple present and not progressive. KISS showed how to do it right when they named a song "I still love You" in 1982.

Never met Uli but someone in the family must have got all the brains. If I remember correct Rudi used to be a high voltage electric worker - might have got a few electric shocks too many. This would alkso explain the hairdo.

Great song, even if it was hijacked by the movie Freejack, I, shamefully, saw this movie at the theater, but if you'll pardon Anthony Hopkins, Mick Jagger & Emilio Estavez, here it is: Hit Between The Eyes
fall far and well Pilots!

While I enjoy the Scorpions sound of the 1980s, it is the 1970s sound of the Scorpions that I really love, particularly when Uli Jon Roth (Ulrich Roth) was the lead guitarist. In this song, taken from the Scorp's 1976 album In Trance, Roth channels his inner Hendrix.

SUN IN MY HAND
(Written by Ulrich Roth)

Yeah, well, I'd like to tell you something now
For men who shows you
Who's the furthest in the sky

How can you lose your mind?
How can you waste your time?
Hoping like that

Look at the sun inside
Of my hand so bright
I call it music

And if you touch, you'll see
Stars from infinity
Judge me forever

And when I touch the rain
Music will make you sane
Burn like you say 'em, oh

How can you lose your mind
How can you waste your time
Hoping like that

Look at the sun inside
Of my hand so bright
I call it music

Danlo already quoted this song's lyrics in this thread, but I'll repeat them so that I can add a link right after them:

SPEEDY'S COMING
(Written by Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker)

You look at a poster
You look at the wall
The wall in the room where you live
Where you live with your stars
Just listen to his records
Now hear what he says
For he says, "I love you little girl
Come to see me today"

Speedy's Coming
You live in his heart
Speedy's Coming
You live in his heart

You like Alice Cooper
You like Ringo Starr
You like David Bowie
And friends in the Royal Albert Hall
Stick up the pictures, movies, TV
And I'll bring you the show little girl
Come to see me today

Speedy's Coming
You live in his heart
Speedy's Coming
You live in his heart

You like Alice Cooper
You like Ringo Starr
You like David Bowie
And friends in the Royal Albert Hall
Stick up the pictures, movies, TV
And I'll bring you the show little girl
Come to see me today

Speedy's Coming
You live in his heart
Speedy's Coming
You live in his heart
Speedy's Coming
You live in his heart
Speedy's Coming
You live in his heart

I love the energy of this song, and once again, Uli Roth's playing makes the song fun for me.
