Man that is by far my favorite album. Nearly all of the tracks on my LP have horrendous skips that only add to the texture of each track. The term ROCK isn't big enough to describe the kind of sonic ecstasy that NO was able to produce. If my turntable wasn't broken I'd run home right now and get freaked out all over again.
Most fans agree that the psychadelic effect of that LP is enhanced by listening to it on a broken turntable....just be sure you drop plenty of acid first.

And then turn "Asleepen" and "Meaningless Stories" up really loud!

Absolutely. They used to open up for Queen Burgundy.

Prog band. Their most popular albums were "In the Court of the Burgundy Queen" and "Sharks' Dongs in Plastic".

The original No drummer quit No to join Queen Burgundy; unfortunately, once he quit QB, he forgot he ever was a drummer, and has become increasingly belligerent towards the press in the last few years, denying he's ever been anything other than a used tupperware salesman.

dANdeLION wrote:I loved NO in the 70's. 'Delayor', 'Going For The None', and "Far From The Middle" are my favorite NO albums. I think they went downhill in the 80's when they replaced Jack Tinley with Treblor Rabid and put out the crappy '20195' and 'Little Generalator' albums. The 90's ushered in a return to greatness with such gems as 'Keyboard To Ascension'. That Bell Dickerson was quoted as saying "NNNNGHHH" when asked about how he got his unique bass tone on that album, which sounds like a heard of cattle stampeding through a field of wet noodles soaked in gelatin.
And here I thought it was Small Enevator...

Has anyone given No's Small Enevator a listen yet? I'm particularly drawn to the Aim Low, Shoot High and Syncopation of Hate tracks...

Every time I hear the last track off that album, I say to myself "Holy Cow!", which, fittingly enough, is the name of the track.

I'm listening to Tinley Dickerson Stewart & Johnson right now.....simply incredible.

But I'm curious how to capture that sound in the studio.
My guess is that you'd have to play the bass while wearing oven mitts and coat the strings and fretboard with puppy fur and cottage cheese.

1997'S "Don't Close Your Eyes" was largely panned by fans and critics alike. The 1st 10 tracks were unremarkable, but listenable. The final track (Dissolution), however, was literally crap. A full 47 minutes of ambient noise and hushed conversation, punctuated random farting noises; "Dissolution" is the longest track No ever recorded.

1973's Tales of Pornographic Motions caused division among st fans, critics, and even band mates.

The songs were so long, keyboardist Dick Fakeman often ordered Chinese and ate it during T extended guitar solos, and quit the band at the end of the tour.

Nerdy fans, seeing the album's title, flocked to record stores in the vain hope that owning that album would somehow make them popular with members of the opposite sex.

A friend of mine at work reminded me that Bill Bruford is a huge NO fan.

Here's Bill wearing his NO shirt on a gig!
