I feel mildly hungover this morning. I went out last night with an old friend, Lynda. I've been watching season 2 of 24 this week, and I've realised that Sarah Wynter looks a lot like Lynda.

We had a lovely couple of drinks - I downed 2 pints of Kilkenny (she had 2 glasses of cider) and we then went to dinner and enjoyed some Italian pasta (gnocchi sp?) with some Margaret River red wine. All yummy.

Ah the charm and familiarity of old friends. Lynda and I go back 10 years, back to when she was at Uni and I was dating her best friend. With my wife in Sydney, an evening of female company (ahem, the platonic kind!), a few drinks, and some great conversation was more than worth my mild hangover this morning.

Oh, and I gave her Harry Potter 1 so "I can find out what all the fuss about Harry Potter is about."

The voting game has caused so many problems here. I knew it was a flawed game.

I won't disagree that it's flawed, but I can't say I've really seen it cause problems, per se. I was worried that if I kept reminding myself about it or talking about it I might actually start to take it seriously--which is ridiculous--but that's just because I'm prone to letting mild annoyance get the better of me. I'm managing to avoid that, so far.
(It also, incidentally, has nothing to do with who is being voted for or against in the game. Hell, the voting in the game has very little to do with who is being voted against.)


Edit: Jenn, my one vote in the game today has nothing to do with what I've said here about it, other than it being in part related to my finding the distribution of scores there ridiculous. Certainly nothing personal, as you for some reason seem to have taken it.

Is there a word to describe the feeling where you've made statement with ambiguous intent which people have taken differently than you meant and you're a little upset by the misunderstanding and a little at yourself for causing the misunderstanding and yet still not sure how or whether to act in the situation?

Good work on learning to pole dance. I've heard from friends that its a good all round workout, and much tougher than it looks.

If you want to alleviate your soreness, I suggest you try soaking yourself in a bath for a while, with a glass of champagne, preferably handed to you by your SO. That should help the bruises to heal

Od’s bodkins! I’m absolutely gobsmacked that everyone on the board is so hornswoggled by this petty conundrum as to wail and gnash their teeth, rending their garment in a fit of ruth! Murrin, what have ye wrought? I have quaffed the quizzical query, and bludgeoned my brain with a belaying pin. No one word seems to do the trick. My effervescent wellspring of bon mots runneth dry! ‘twould seem you are both miffed and peeved, taken aback and at a loss, nonplussed and chagrined. Yet none of these terms is adequate by itself to the task. Nevertheless, what better way to rectify misapprehended equivocation then to justify it with obfuscation in a grandiloquent spate of floccinaucinihilipilification?
