Is it just me, or does Null have a tendancy to like crappy comic books?

Null and I tend to like the opposite things, but I don't think it's fair to call his favorites crap.

Ah, the Squad!!! Among my favorites too!!! The premise was not entirely ignored, but no major villain was killed on a mission. Anyway, just incredible stories! The Jihad. The Janus Directive (reallly great multi-title crossover). The Batman appearances. On and on and on...

I personally like a lot of what Null posts (with the exception of 3-D man). Hee.

3-D Man would rock. :D
and thank you for the kind words dAN and Guns.

the Suicide Squad was great because unlike the majority of comic books there was no status quo preventing change. anyone could die on a mission and many did. Rick Flag, Mindboggler, Ravan, etc. people could change in a major way like Enchantress did. villains could become heroes like Boomerang and Deadshot, while not straying too far from what they really where. plenty of b-listers made appearances. and sometimes a major villain like the Penguin or Captain Cold would show up. with Ostrander (and Kim Yale, rip) writing throughout there was a natural flow of continuity. (who expected William Hell to show up again?) they brought in people from Meta and Apokolips. the Batman cameos weren't overdone and the company tie-ins were not total sell-outs. and i liked the main three artists: Luke Mcdonnell, John K Snyder (my favorite artist for comics) and Geoff Isherwood.

so great writing, great art, an anything can happen format. compare that to your typical Marvel or DC book where almost nothing can change and the "fans" seem to bitch about continuity more than actually enjoying the comics.

That reminds me of a great story arc. I forget the numbers...but it was the Marvel Comics Presents, wherein MY favorite artist BARRY WINDSOR SMITH, did the whole Wolverine origin/"Weapon X" run!

Sweet!

Yeah, that was excellent art!!!! I can't stand Wolverine stories, since he gets a new origin every couple months, but I really like that art.

the Golden Age by James Robinson and Paul Smith

Image

my favorite mini of all time. even more than Kingdom Come. utilizing many gold age heroes that hadn't been seen in decades, the story is well told. shocking, sad and poignant at varying times. with an awesome reveal. do yourself a favor and find this. it has been collected. and look for the Neon the Unknown appearance. :)

Golden Age was a 4 issue mini-series.

but for your ease it has been collected in one book. Robinson was supposed to do a Silver Age to follow it up, but it never happened.

What's up with the anti-Marvel bias? Six DC options vs. one Marvel option? Sheesh!
