Long Island Girl

Even when our mother yelled at us
She did so with a sinuous, graceful, panache
It was the same when she walked
The same when she talked
With the elegant and eloquent air of
A Bon Vivant and a natural catwalk model

She seemed to glide through the world
on a plane many yearn to reach
Immersed in her books
Loving laughter
Music
And a fine conversation
Fascinated by all works of creation
and deeply in love with the arts

If she had a mantra
It would be= 'Live life to it's fullest!'
And she did
And she would expect us all to, as well
This fierce lioness
Left us gasping
At the void she left behind

I read this at my Mom's memorial in early April

Your mother sounds like someone I'd have liked to meet. So sorry for your loss. . . what a beautiful way to remember her.
