It's like a web forum..message board...MSM messenger...Yahoo chat...and MySpace all rolled up into one.
Um, not quite. You can only read the profile of someone if they're either your friend, or on one of your "networks". Otherwise, the best you can do is a profile picture and the option of poking, contacting, or friending them.
And it's nowhere near the hell that is MySpace.
I'm a member there; I have four friends, I'm on two networks, and I have no intention of adding anything else.

-Yeah..I knew you had to be someone's friend, to get all their details.

Oh and it's not generational either.

There are just as many Baby Boomers using it and Gen-xers as {whatever you kids are calling yourselves} using it.

It used to be, but they expanded it to high school, and now anyone can use it.

What another wonderful way to give up your privacy on the internet.

Actually, there's no loss of anonymity.

You don't have to put any info in your profile unless you choose to.

No-one will see your profile, unless you choose to allow them to. All anyone else will see is your name - and there's nothing forcing you to use your real name.

...damn AOL...

Still haven't received any, nor have I seen any in my SPAM box neither.

Perhaps you should try O-gon-cho's email instead...

I use FaceBook for picture storage. It has all 600+ of my Brit-Italy pics.

I'm also the President of the Hobbit Club.

Actually, you can make it so no one can see your name unless you want them too. My daughter made herself unsearchable. I can't see her name in a group we're both in, because we haven't friended each other. :P

Edge and MsMary, I stand corrected.

I'm sure that sites like Facebook provide a valuable means of connecting with other people. I suppose it's a way of "humanizing" the internet. It's just that, being a very cautious person, I'm always amazed at how others seem so ready to divulge personal information about themselves when given the opportunity.

I have not visited Facebook, but I'll purely guess that more often than not, it attracts the, um, more fearless among us. They can do whatever, of course. It's no skin off my back. :)
