Your favorite sad and angry songs
What are they?
I have become an ITunes junkie.
But after trying to make a few playlists based on songs that make you sad and songs that make you angry I came up with only a couple.
I know some songs are only sad based on how you were feeling when you first heard them or associated like that somehow.
Care to list some of your "sad" songs?
I'll list mine later.
I'm at work now and don't have access to the names.
Now, "angry" songs is a little different.
What do I mean by angry?
Songs that get your blood pumping but not in a happy way.
Like Metalica's "Whiskey in a Jar"
Know what I mean? it's not uplifting or anything but I could drive 120MPH listening to that song.
Again, I know it's all subjective but I'll download anything someone posts here and check it out.
Thanks!

For sad it's "The River" by Bruce Springsteen. Makes me well up in tears everytime.
I'm editing to be more specific. From the haunting harmonica melodies to the subdued singing that peaks at the bold parts and sounds as though you can hear the pain in his voice to the evoking lyrics of lost love and broken dreams, every single part of that song is sad.
I come from down in the valley
where mister when you're young
They bring you up to do like your daddy done
Me and Mary we met in high school
when she was just seventeen
We'd ride out of that valley down to where the fields were green
We'd go down to the river
And into the river we'd dive
Oh down to the river we'd ride
Then I got Mary pregnant
and man that was all she wrote
And for my nineteenth birthday I got a union card and a wedding coat
We went down to the courthouse
and the judge put it all to rest
No wedding day smiles no walk down the aisle
No flowers no wedding dress
That night we went down to the river
And into the river we'd dive
Oh down to the river we did ride
I got a job working construction for the Johnstown Company
But lately there ain't been much work on account of the economy
Now all them things that seemed so important
Well mister they vanished right into the air
Now I just act like I don't remember
Mary acts like she don't care
But I remember us riding in my brother's car
Her body tan and wet down at the reservoir
At night on them banks I'd lie awake
And pull her close just to feel each breath she'd take
Now those memories come back to haunt me
they haunt me like a curse
Is a dream a lie if it don't come true
Or is it something worse
that sends me down to the river
though I know the river is dry
That sends me down to the river tonight
Down to the river
my baby and I
Oh down to the river we ride
The bold represents where I start sniffling, the italics mark where the actual sob moment comes. Seriously. I think this is the saddest song ever written.

And I wonder, day to day.
I don't like you any way.
I don't need your shit today.
You're pathetic in your own way.
I feel for you.
Better fucking go away.
I will be
Hey!
Better fucking go away.
I'm doin the best I ever did,
I'm doin the best that I can.
I'm doin the best I ever did!
I don't need to fantasize,
You are my pet all the time.
I don't mind if you go blind,
You get what you get, until you're through with mine!
I feel for you.
Better fucking go away.

I rarely, hardly ever, allow myself to reach the state where I want to hear this. I have other things I try first so that I don't get to this place. I listen to this maybe once every three years or so...
Speak of the destruction. (x3)
This is a world destruction, your life ain't nothing.
The human race is becoming a disgrace.
Countries are fighting with chemical warfare.
Not giving a damn about the people who live there.
Nostradamus predicts the coming of the Antichrist.
Hey, look out, the third world nations are on the rise.
The Democratic-Communist Relationship,
won't stand in the way of the Islamic force.
The CIA is looking for you.
The KGB is smarter than you think.
Brainwash mentalities to control the system.
Using TV and movies - religions of course.
Yes, the world is headed for destruction.
Is it a nuclear war?
What are you asking for?
This is a world destruction. Your life ain't nothing.
The human race is becoming a disgrace.
The rich get richer.
The poor are getting poorer.
Fascist, chauvinistic government fools.
People, Moslems, Christians and Hindus.
Are in a time zone still searching for the truth.
Who are you to think you're a superior race?
Facing forth your everlasting doom.
We are Time Zone. We've come to drop a bomb on you.
World destruction, kaboom, kaboom, kaboom!
This is the world destruction, your life ain't nothing.
The human race is becoming a disgrace.
Nationalities are fighting with each other.
Why is this? Because the system tells you.
Putting people in faceless categories.
Knowledge isn't what it used to be.
Military tactics to control a nation.
Who wants to be a president or king? Me!
Mother Nature is gonna work against you.
Nothing in your power that you can do.
Yes, the world is headed for destruction.
You and I know it, cause the Bible tells you.
If we don't start to look for a better life,
the whole world will be destroyed in a time zone!

- The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy.
With a load of iron ore - 26,000 tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty
That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early
The ship was the pride of the American side
Coming back from some mill in Wisconson
As the big freighters go it was bigger than most
With a crew and the Captain well seasoned.
Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for Cleveland
And later that night when the ships bell rang
Could it be the North Wind they'd been feeling.
The wind in the wires made a tattletale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the Captain did, too,
T'was the witch of November come stealing.
The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the gales of November came slashing
When afternoon came it was freezing rain
In the face of a hurricane West Wind
When supper time came the old cook came on deck
Saying fellows it's too rough to feed ya
At 7PM a main hatchway caved in
He said fellas it's been good to know ya.
The Captain wired in he had water coming in
And the good ship and crew was in peril
And later that night when his lights went out of sight
Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her.
They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters.
Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
In the ruins of her ice water mansion
Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams,
The islands and bays are for sportsmen.
And farther below Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
With the gales of November remembered.
In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed
In the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral
The church bell chimed, 'til it rang 29 times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald.
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they say, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

I'm checking into leaving, yeah I'm folding
- Godless
I'm tired of breaking down and shaking this life around
I'm tired of praying, yeah I'm tired of trying myself
I'm tired of being taken all the way
I don't need to be godless - but I am
I don't need my head - keepin all my problems
I don't need your hand of god
I don't need to say I'm godless
With nowhere to fall, I'm all ready to fall
Day by day I'm like a playful puppet
And I stumble around
I'm aching on my brain and I'm in
Big trouble, big trouble
I still got to breathe, oh yeah
Like my shame this will all go down
God damned me that's for sure
and I believe, I believe I don't belong here
I don't need - to get my head kicked in
And I don't need to be another lost
Soul that can't find home
I don't need to get my face
dragged down in the muddy water
I don't need, to say I'm godless anymore
Still I'm gone
Still I'm on the run
Still I'm on the brink of the edge
Still I'm, still I'm feeling dead
I don't need to be godless, but I am
I don't need to be another lost soul who can't find home
I don't need your hand of god
I don't need to say I'm godless anymore.

The name of the songs would be a big help!
(Jenn's not included, she's perfect as always!)
Sad songs:
"Volcano" Damian Rice
"Run" Snow Patrol
"Everlong" Foo Fighters **the acoustic version only!**
"Forever Autumn" Justin Hayward from the War of the World soundtrack (not the new one) also the 5 minute long one. There's another 7 minute one with a voiceover from the movie that sucks.
I have more but it's time for bed!

Well, Esmer's sad song is "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot. Another vote for sad is "Young Stranger" also by Gordon Lightfoot. The last line always gets me a little. The line is "The answers in the forest carved upon a tree, John loves Mary, does anyone love me?"
