Lyja is a Skrull, who are an alien race of shape-shifters. Skrulls pretty much hate humans, especially human superheroes. She was trained to infiltrate the Fantastic Four disguised as Alicia Masters, who was the Thing's girlfriend. The plan suffered from bad timing, however, as Ben Grimm (the Thing) had left the FF and was replaced by the She-Hulk. Lyja improvised, and soon started dating Johnny Storm, the Human Torch. After a while, they fell in love and married. And they really did fall in love; the FF found out about her, and she still sacrificed herself to save Johnny, or maybe even all of them. My memory is a bit blurry as all that happened from the mid-eighties to the early nineties, real time. Anyway, she didn't die, and eventually recovered and even was reconciling with Johnny when the stupid Marvel reboot of 1996 erased her, along with several other minor characters. I think she showed up one more time, but for the most part, I don't think the FF remember her ever existing.
