The new Radiohead album...free!

Post by Worm of Despite »

Wikipedia wrote:On 1 October 2007, Radiohead announced via their blog the title, track list, and release dates of their seventh studio album, In Rainbows. As the band was not in a contract with any record label at the time of its release, the album was initially released as a download from inrainbows.com on 10 October 2007. This version, packaged as a zip file, included the ten album tracks encoded in 160kbps DRM-free MP3 format. Upon purchase, the buyer was prompted to type in their desired price, plus a credit card transaction fee of 45 pence if purchased for more than £0.00. The staggered online release of the album began at about 5:30 GMT.
I hear it's received a lot of critical acclaim. It's supposedly an improvement on Hail to the Thief, but other critics say it's a byproduct of jams. Well, I'm about to find out, as my download just completed itself.

Wow, I just downloaded it, im only on about track 4...

I think this is the one... the one we have been waiting for since OK Computer.

I can only describe my feelings as... exhilerated, bouyant, ecstatic.

IMHO, It's Radiohead's best album. Mellow and Lush. Very relaxing.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. This album is growing on me. At first I thought it was a passable collection of songs: they were all solid but provided no highlights, ala Paranoid Android or Pyramid Song. But that was the initial impression, and each song is pretty familiar to me now. The album doesn't rely on a climax; each piece contributes to a greater whole. Like OK Computer, the music bears up to repeated listening.

It's definitely more cohesive and accessible than Hail to the Thief.

My favorite cut would be "Videotape". I wasn't surprised, because Radiohead always provides a gorgeous closer.

I have it... and love it. I agree with Brinns comment about it being mellow and lush.... two perfect words to describe the experience.
