I've only half of the First of the Dark Tower series, so I can't really comment.

LOL, well considering I have only read the Dark Tower books, Dead Zone and Salem's Lot...I'll have to say the Dark Tower books out of those I have read are the ones I like the most.
I plan to read more of his books, especially those with tie-ins to the Tower.

TLF,
They made that so-so movie about it, with Drew Barrymore as the pyrokinetic. I guess she was about 10 yo. Actually, her father's power is the more interesting one, imo. Not that hers isn't pretty incredible. Anyway, avoid the movie, and read the book.
Read the book.
To me, King has the most fluid writing style of anybody I've read. I can't explain it, but everything just keeps you going, reading on. This is true even with his books that aren't, imo anyway, particularly good. But Firestarter has such amazing things happening, on top of his great style of storytelling!

THE STAND and then followed closely by IT, Christine, Firestarter, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption (short story), The Green Mile. As Richard Bachman: The Long Walk, The Body (aka Stand By Me ...the film version).
His short stories from Night Shift, Different Seasons, Skeleton Crew, etc. are all good and too numerous to mention.
Definitely I'm with Fist; read the books Leper Fairy, ignore most of the movies... they'll be another thread on those undoubtedly.
The Tower series I read the first one and didn't care for it. T'was good but didn't bark up my tree...

I too only red The Gunslinger and found it kind of hard going and a bit...well...boring. Nice ideas...I like the concept of pursuing the man in black, and some of the underground bits sre suitably creepy, but I got the end and didn't really feel compelled to take it any further.
I'm re-reading Insomnia at the moment, just to see if it's as dull as I remember. It is. Again, nice idea poorly executed.
I really like The Running Man and Rage/Getting It On

Was it Richard Bachman? Desperation and Needful Things. No doubt about it.

Oh, I loved the Long Walk by the way. One of the best short stories I've ever read.

yeah me too... keep thinking what a creepy movie that would've made. I think it would probably trip folks out that haven't read the story not knowing what it is.
But then it would be a grueling movie to watch since all the action is

The Stand. I just couldn't put the book down once I started reading it.
Pet Cemetary was pretty good too (IMO). The movie version kinda sucked though.
"The Mist" from Skeleton Crew (I know... it's a short story, not a novel)
