GWAR!

Post by The Dreaming »

I had the dubious pleasure of seeing them live last august. (At Waverly Hills Sanitorium of all places, that's the [supposedly] haunted old TB hospital in Louisville.) I have to say, I have never seen bad taste taken to such aesthetic heights before. It was a pretty bitchin show. Anyway I got bored and dug this Youtube clip of them up a few days ago.

(In case you havn't realized, it is all a put on. I have a friend who has actually met their lead singer, and said he was a shockingly normal guy)

I knew I liked you Guns. Now I'm certain. I love the Residents as well, and have recently been all excited about them again. Been listening to a lot of Gingerbread Man and Title In Limbo.
Damn, I wish I had sound on my computer at work. I might have to bring some crappy speakers in this weekend to be able to hear this.

I still wonder if Teller of Penn and Teller is one of them, and that's the reason he doesn't speak, as he would be identified as one of the Residents by his voice. Just a thought.

Y'know...there are several Residents albums I've never been able to pick up, and never bothered ordering online. The "Commercial Album" is one of them. I bought all the CD-ROM games when they came out, and when I worked as a DJ for an alternative station in the 80's I played Title In Limbo a LOT. Some of it is available on their CD "Not Available," but I happened to notice when Ralph Records was selling a limited supply of them, (only 1000) and I snatched it up as quick as I could, and ended up with nine hundred sixty something, as they were numbered. I waited a bit, and I'm glad I bought it when I did because I almost missed out, apparently.

I've been slowly collecting their stuff, but have found myself not taking to their new stuff. Haven't bought anything since Devils Dance Alone, or whatever that 9/11 inspired CD was called.

"Fingerprince" and the "Commercial Album" are definitely on my radar though.

After hearing GWAR songs as awful as "Sexecutioner" and "Poor Ole Tom", I knew it would take a miracle to get me to like this band. And it hasn't happened yet.
