For girls I like Natalie Grace and Lydia Jean

Boys names don't interest me, so I haven't thought about it. (Which is funny because I want two boys and don't want girls at all.)

If you are gonna go the Norse god route then why not Freya for a girl?

I had a friend in high school named Brad Nail, only guy that I have ever known that was named after a fastener.

As far as my kids names I just tried to give them good wholesome names that are hard to make fun of. Daniel Rhys and Steven Joseph, I spelled Steve-O's name with a V because pronouncing Stephen as Steven when phonetically it should be pronounced Ste-f-en has never made any sense to me.

The baby's last name will be Breslen. So Brian and Brenda should be right out.

Boys - Traditional names sound very strong with that surname: David, Jack, James, Eric, Wayne, Jonathan. The trendier names are hit and miss: Hunter, Kyle, Tucker, Thaddeus. Or you could go for off-continent: Seamus, Karl, Gareth, Xavier.

Girls - Again, the traditionals lend themselves well: Sarah, Amanda, Nina, Theresa, Paulette. Or you could go in a different direction: Ardith, Katarina, Adella, Vivien.

I must say, with that last name, it would be pretty hard to go wrong, as long as you stay away from drug names - Propecia, Abilify, Metformin, or Chantix, anyone?

Some of the weirdest names I have ever run into (yes, these belong to real people I have met) to use as examples of the sort of thing to generally avoid doing to an innocent child:
Rose Redd
Tennessee Bird
Cowunders Shelton
Harry Knipple
Douglas Dick

My father in law's first name is Dredmond and his middle name is Geibel. Needless to say, he goes by Bill!

And then there is the curse of the very old and unusual family name. In my father's family there are women with the first name of Jerusha going back to colonial times. Might be fine as a middle name, but... (I think that this is a twist on the old English name "Jerusiah", which might be even worse...)

My aunt always went by "Rushie" .

I've always been glad I did not get that one.

Menolly, you scare me sometimes! Griffin has been at the top of my baby name list since I was a young girl! I think it's going to be stricken from said list due to associations with my ex (we had our future children's names planned).

If I had 3 children and the last one was a boy I'd name him Ender.

Poor kid.

I also really like the name Lyra. I guess all my future kids will have character's names. No Hermiones though!

I used to see all sorts of crazy kids names when I worked at the medical practice. Blade, Chimera (ffs!), twins called Bob and Marley. Not Robert either, just Bob. Actually giving a child a shortened name instead of just calling them it is a pet peeve of mine, my sister even did it with her youngest, Christening her Ellie rather than Eleanor.

The sports names can be interesting too, there was one guy in town who called his three boys Kareem, Kadeem and Shaquille and somebody else who called their son Pelé. Those are some big football boots to fill! Some names require a lot of growing into and I'd worry that the kid might not be able to carry it off in later life. Some friends of mine were going to call their baby Harrison Fry if it was a boy and that's quite a big name to carry off. I suppose he could always shorten it to Harry, though.

As for my own children, having a very short last name makes the first name more important I think, it needs to be quite a strong name and anything with one syllable is right out. I've always liked Anna for a girl and for a boy I currently like Loris, after Loris Capirossi the Moto GP rider and because it's a kind of monkey.
