I was looking for an excuse to get out of there as much as anything....

Basically getting the Weather beaten journal gives you the ability to find fish, like finding herbs.

well...how do you level up your fishing after you hit the fishing book level (i think its 225)?

and you like...fish in floating debris??? like THATS what that crap is for? fishing in??? who knew. :P is booty bay floating debris where you find the weatherbeated book of fish finding? or is it floating debris anywhere or can the container pop up anywhere you fish no matter if there's floating debris or not?

and how do you guys find all this stuff OUT??? yeesh.

(they're all like "ho hum i got the weatherbeated fish finding book to day and won the fishing tournament!" :P  )

You get the journal from strongboxes you fish; those pop up more often in schools of fish than regular water, and almost every cast will get you a box if you fish in floating wreckage. It's just a matter of keeping fishing anywhere until you find it. Floating wreckage can appear all over.
To get your fishing above 225, go to the Forlorn Cavern inside Ironforge and the fishing trainer there will give you a quest to go see Nat Pagle in Dustwallow. Nat will send you to go catch four particular fish from around the world, and when you complete that quest he'll teach you Artisan Fishing skill.
All the secondary professions (Fishing, Cooking, First Aid) have a quest to reach Artisan level.

Yeah, if you see floating debris when you're fishing or running along the shore, cast a line into it. You may pick up two or three boxes before the debris disappears. I've never gotten anything real good, but it usually pays for the bait. :)

I was fishing into a school of stonescale eel right off the ramp at Booty Bay when I picked up the journal, so Murrin's right, it isn't only in debris that you can find a trunk.

Lucimay wrote:and how do you guys find all this stuff OUT??? yeesh.
You gotta research. :)

Between WoWWiki and Thottbot you can figure out what you have to do. Particularly Thottbot, which can save time on quests by getting an idea of where to look for things. In Darnassus, last night, I was given a quest to find a journal that from the wording of it gave me no clue where to look. Thottbot helped give me the general location - it was in Darnassus, but before I looked it up thought I had to go to Forest Song.

WoWWiki gives more general knowledge, like about what the weather beaten journal does.

Mods can really help out as well, if you don't have any already. I'd recommend TitanPanel as a starter, it puts a small menu bar at the top and bottom (I always turn the bottom one off) of the screen and you can display all sorts of useful information. I typically have the zone I'm in, how much XP I'm generating per hour, estimated time to next level, co-ordinates (essential for following directions from thottbot), money, armor condition, ammo and game performance (frames per second and latency).

There's also a very cool mod called Quest Helper that will actually examine all of your quests and draw a route on the map and minimap showing you the fastest way around the zone to do all the quests. It's a godsend for levelling alts, but I think it would spoil the game first time round.

cool!! syl sent me links to a bunch of mods but i've never installed them, mostly because by the time i get home to play its like
nine thirty or ten and i'm tired and just want to play.
(i don't know what my excuse is on the weekends. just lazy i reckon  )

so i went fishing last night, found some debris in the wetlands, fished
a box out of it, silver and potions no journal. moved on up to that cove
where the buccaneers are and took a quest to protect a gnome while
he went up to a cave to get some kinda energy from a stone in the cave
to run a gizmo something or other. didn't bother to see what lvl the
quest was, just trotted up to the cave with him and was taken quite
unawares when two lvl 40 elemental thingys popped up and kicked
my butt. and killed raymond too. and the gnome. waaaaah!!! because
what REALLY crappy about that is i had to walk all the way back around.
didn't realize i could get to the bay by jumping off the Thanol Span.
arg.

i had gone there cause i remembered there was floating debris up there
when i discovered it. the cove that is.
of course...no floating debris up there last night. and all the quests are
red. a bit beyond me by myself.

soooooo....i went to booty bay to fish. got another box straight off.
silver and potions. (and some blackmouth)

no floating debris. no weatherbeated book of fish finding.

this shall be my mission!!! heh. (right after i go do that quest for
nat whatshisname in Marshmellow Marsh)

You can get some really random stuff out of the floating debris. I once got a +12 fire resistance ring in northern Stranglethorn Vale, which was invaluable for Molten Core.

of course i have not seen ONE earthly pile of floating debris since ya'll
told me about the floating debris.

but i did borrow some money from the guild bank to get my next alchemy lvl up. the potions are starting to look pretty cool, battle elixers and stuff.

does anyone need any kind of potion in particular? i can leave them in the guild bank for ya or mail em to ya. and last night i learned a nature resistance and a frost resistance one.

You're a good way ahead of me, I'm only about 155 in Alchemy.

I've got to do a little more buying and selling in the auction house, I think, and see if I can make some money that way. I'm only 6 levels away from trying to get a mount, and I've got less than 5 gold. :?

I'm going to need you alchemists eventually. Apparently you guys can turn Thorium into Arcanite.

(I actually have some Thorium now, the first I've ever mined. Took a wander into Un'Goro Crater yesterday to get the flightpoint--high level area, but surprisingly easy to get around. A lot of the creatures were yellow and just ignored me.)

welcome to my world!! should i be trying to auction the potions i make? i've never even looked at potions at the AH. i go look for receipes but have not looked at whether people sell potions. i assume they do but its
just never occurred to me to check it out. hee. perhaps thats why i'm still poor. anyhow...i have a few good ones now and tonight i'll go herbing and also go to AH and buy some herbs if i can't find em cause i have a few receipes that call for herbs that grow in some higher level places. last night i was at 199 on alchemy and only needed one point to get Artisan lvl so i went outside booty bay thinking "god knows where i'll have to walk to to find an herb that will level me. hope i don't get killed trying" right about then a liferoot shows up on the map with no beasties or pirates around so i was able to pick it quick and head back in to lvl!! YAY!! something goes RIGHT!!

so as soon as i make some dough i'll pay the guild back. i've basically been operating on 5-10 gold since i made my first gold piece. i only have my awesome crossbow cause sorus bought it for me and made me a scope.
anyhow...thanks guild people, for the loaner. i'll pay the guild back as soon as i start to make money.

Potions sell very well in the AH. At higher levels you can make a fortune. I will put some more gold in the guild bank this weekend, after I do some dailies. I had resisted giving all of you gold in the beginning because it's important to learn how the economy works. That said, you are all experienced now, and I will use my resources to aid the guild as I promised in the beginning.

I've been at around 30g most of the time for a while now; though today I bought a stack of Treusilver so I could quickly finish a Blacksmithing item, and I'm down to <15g while I wait for what was left over to resell. I could be making profits again if I took the time to play the market, but I've pretty much stopped bothering.

At level 46, and I've started grinding in the Searing Gorge, because the quests became available. Flaming Elementals seem to do more damage to me than anything else, even the low level ones; I can still manage most of the things in the area near Thorium Point, though, up to level 49 (with slightly more healing needed). Avoiding fighting more than one at a time.

I took an orphan around for Children's Week. Nice little run around quest though I fell about 3/4 of the way down the tower in Theramore after getting Jaina Proudmoore's autograph. Plus, I took the 5 gold instead of the pet pig.... Yeah, I'm a scrooge.

Heh. I'm working this weekend, so no WoW'ing for me (12 hr shifts and a cold don't give me much time in the evening after work).
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”
