Tom Jones was our friend who encouraged us to submit art at his museum. we were at two of the open call shows. we met Hunter ROth at the first. Julie put it better than I can...

It wasn't hundreds but thousands of people there - four of whom were my three grandchildren and me. It was a magical day. The kind of day that everyone should have with their children or grandchildren. It was a day without worries or bills or work or illness or age. It was wonderful. I hope it made everyone feel the way it made me feel. And it clogged up a street? Oh well, there are plenty more to go down and around.
I think the art cars are wonderful - they are beautiful, fun, musical, political, silly and serious.
I live an hour away and I would not miss it for the world.

Tom was a huge influence in my husband's and my life. It was he who encouraged us to bring art into the Calacas show at the Art Car Museum two years ago. He was like our "art father". He treated us like we had just done the most creative, artistic piece ever. And then this past year, he encouraged us to go bigger and bolder.
He meant a lot to us. And now I feel a little like an orphan.
There will never be another like him.

thank you. we are at a loss. tom always let me exceed the size restrictions of my artwork. :) we got to see his band once. we only knew him a few years and will miss out on knowing him these many more. i loved showing my work to him. we wanted to do an art car, and now he won't ever get to see it.
