Latest Dance with Dragons update (Spoilers)

Post by I'm Murrin »

George RR Martin has updated his site again with news regarding his progress on the new book.
Read the update here.

The book is not finished; Martin is currently expecting to finish in time for a visit to Spain in the summer.
Also of note: He has, over the course of the year, made changes to the story including adding PoV chapters for a character who has not had a PoV in any of the previous books. He gives a clue to the character's identity: it is "one of the characters featured in the first lot of Ice & Fire miniatures from Dark Sword." I've had a look at what those miniatures are, and it looks like the new PoV is either Sandor Clegane, Melisandre, or Loras Tyrell.

I hope it's the Hound. That would totally rock. In fact, I'm sure it's gotta be the Hound.

If it's Loras I'll be surprised, he doesn't seem like major character material to me. And the only way melisandre makes sense is if he *gasps* bumps off Davos, I think, because why have so many POVs crowded around Stannis?

NOOO! NOT DAVOS!

I'm hoping it's the hound too. He rulz.

If this book isn't out within six months, I think I may have some very angry words for Mister Martin. More than I already do.

He has (lately) stated that now that he is past a very difficult Bran chapter, he hopes to have Dance on shelves by the end of summer or in the fall!!! YAY!

Wow, I'm reading Feast just in time!

A difficult Bran chapter sounds intriguing! I've been wanting his story to move along now since, well, chapter one. :)

He's posted pictures of the cover on his website, too. It's easier to find here, though: (US cover)

I like the look of the dragon a lot, though I might have saved the green cover for the last book. Still a good looking cover, though.

That's the Welsh dragon, isn't it?

I prefer the UK covers, myself. They're very similar in style, just a bit less flat.

I'm not sure on the Welsh dragon, Murrin, you may be right.

I agree though, the UK covers are very nice looking as well.

Batty has it on secondhand info that at a con this weekend, Martin said it'll be out in September. FWIW.

Yup. At last weekend's con in Madison he said that if he finishes and turns it in by his planned deadline (June) then it should be published by the fall. If not, he's not sure when he'll be done, becuase he's leaving the country for a while in June. He said he thinks he should be done by June, but won't make any promises.

Because every time he does, he has to break it. I'm not going to get excited 'til I see the book on the store shelf.

Going by Martin's last two blog entries, I am certainly not holding my breath for a fall release. In one he talks of how he lost two weeks of working time to illness. In the latest he speaks of being pessimistic about meeting his June deadline for finishing the book. He wanted to get done before traveling to Europe.

On the other hand, he also mentions finishing up a Sansa chapter. This means that he might be finishing up some of the AFFC character archs in ADWD, as was said to be a possibility. 8)

Yup, like I said. Ah well. I'm primed to expect nothing, and hope to be pleasantly surprised. :)

I don't think the new PoV character will be the hound. His story is told from arya's PoV when she travels with him. Loras would work but it'd be kinda bland considering he's with his sister most of the time and she's covered in cersei's chapters. My money is on it being Melisandre.
