I'm more of a new years resolution person than lent. Last year I gave up all forms of alcohol and sex. Couldn't think of one for this year. Thinking of giving up meat and chocolate next year, any thoughts?

Chocolate is a pretty common one. We have given up red meat a few times, pretty successfully.
We tried giving up eating out - that only worked up to a point, where it became more inconvenient than helpful.
Don't usually have to give up sex - I'm married, so I get that given up for me

A life without meat, chocolate, alcohol, and sex doesn't seem like something I'd want to do for a lifetime. I like a couple of those things rather a lot. ;)

I don't do it for my whole life, just for that one year, as a kind of test of self determination, I do it to see if I can resist.

Hmmm, care to elaborate on that, Lyr?

Heh. . . well, one of them is chocolate. I'll leave the other up to your imagination.
