Chalkboard Manicure.
Doe's any one else have a scene that you just cant watch because it is too intense on some basic level to watch again. A friend of mine brought this up to me, and it turned into a long discussion, for him it was the ankle breaking scene in Misery. For me it was the fingernail snapping on the basement floor during Stir Of Echoes. I still cringe in anticipation of that particular scene. Im curious if anyone else has a particular scene that provokes a simillar response.

Traffic. The scene in which Michael Douglas finds his daughter with the drug dealer.

I know exactly what you're talking about, but the only thing that really made me cringe was when the cannibal cut off the man's penis and ate it in Faces of Death which I watched at like, 14, and have no desire to see again. I watched the bus whack Joe Black over a few times but just because it was so well done and shocking.

Very powerful. Never want to see it again. Ever.

You have to admit it is kind of funny what inspires disgust in different people, I can be totally undone by that stupid broken fingernail, and then 5 minutes later watch Gibson get his guts shown to him in Braveheart, and not even bat an eyelash. Its like asking someone would you rather be eaten alive by a white shark, or a pond full of hungry Goldfish.

I'm having difficulty remember this scene, and also Lust from se7en.Cail wrote:Traffic. The scene in which Michael Douglas finds his daughter with the drug dealer.
It is funny what disturbs us - there was a scene in Carnivale where a guy got tarred and feathered, and also a similar scene in John Adams. I was appalled by the sheer brutality of both scenes.

You ought to write a song called Chalkboard Manicure; some type of relationship allegory or something about raking your hand across a chalkboard until the nail breaks, self title the album (Something Broken) and immortalize the phrase. You could write pages about all the ways to link the symbolism of these ideas.

I'm having a real hard time coming up with anything. I've never seen any Faces of Death movies, and I refused to watch the Nick Berg decapitation. With all the real violence going on in the world, it's very difficult for me to get worked up over something pretend in a movie. I enjoy its visceral impact (if used well) or roll my eyes at gratuitous, ridiculous examples. But my threshold for this type of stuff is pretty high.
