Yep, that is it! Lucimay is spot on. I even remember the old school vending machines that you could buy them from. You really had to wrench them out and then you got to fiddle with the bottle opener. No easy pull tabs, pop-tops, or twist offs back in the day. You had to earn it! Do I sound as old as I feel?

As an avid Coke fan I have to agree regarding the bottles. I can still practically taste the way it used to be.
Nice.

I think another part of what made them taste so good is that they were still using sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. At some Mexican markets here in Denver anyway, you can buy Mexican Coke that still uses sugar. It might be all in my head, but I think it tastes better.

You're absolutely right, Cag -- it's the sugar, instead of the high-fructose crap that's going to turn us all into ears of corn directly. There was a thread about this very thing in the Galley awhile back. (What's *wrong* with me?? I'm shilling for the GALLEY now?? 8O )

I do, but it still tastes like aluminum. :P Actually, I'm like the others who only drink fountain sodas. The gas station around the corner gives me a 12 pack of soda for every 16 purchases of gas. When I earn one, I almost always get something my friends like and keep it in the fridge for them. As far as that goes, I keep beer in my fridge for them and I won't drink that either. :P

I only wipe off the cans when they are visibly dirty.
In regards to Coca-Cola, I've only liked it from the glass bottle, and I've only had it in the glass bottle when I was in Mexico, so I guess that means I only like it with real sugar instead of corn syrup. Cola makes my teeth feel funny.
I prefer soda from cans because it tastes colder. However, if I'm carrying a soda around with me during school, I prefer to have it in a bottle so when I accidentally knock it off my desk (I'm a klutz) it doesn't make a mess. I don't wipe off bottled sodas unless they're dirty either.
I'd rather just grab a different can or bottle than clean off a dirty one. I'm lazy. :)

Yup, that's to break up the fizzy bubbles so the can doesn't overflow when you open it.

Sometimes it even works.

I like it when it overflows. Especially if I can make it overflow on the person next to me. This is really easy to do at high altitudes. :P

I am lazy, and young. Ergo, I do not clean off the top of my soda cans before I drink them...not that I drink soda that often...

I don't usually drink soda (and when I do it is usually bottled), but I do drink a lot of Red Bull these days - vile substance that it is. I generally give the top of the can what is probably a completely useless wipe - one of those actions you are raised with that you repeat without giving any thought to.

Totally agree with DW regarding bathroom doors; people are NOT civilized. I can't get too excited about the possibility of invisible spider webs on a can, but brain-on-autopilot had to go and connect Point A with Point B and came to the conclusion that soda cans are probably handled at one time or another by someone with deplorable bathroom habits.

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

I do not often drink pop, and when I do it is usually the high end stuff with natural ingredients from Whole Foods (which uses sugar rather than corn syrup) but when I do I do not mess around. I wipe the top of the can down with undiluted 70% isopropyl alcohol, which I let dry before opening the can and drinking. I have heard too many horror stories about cockroach droppings on the cans during storage, shipment, and in the factories!

And at work I always use paper towels to turn on and off the sink water and open the bathroom door. I work in a hospital and too many sick people use the restrooms and do not wash their hands after using the toilet. They have touched their butts/penises/whatever and have not washed their hands before then touching that bathroom door handle. YUCK!!! :whip:

I am pretty ocd about bathrooms (public ones in particular), and I do the same forearm-door-opening trick when the door has a push handle. What I hate is when a restroom has a knob on the door and isn't equipped with paper towels. Then I have to touch the handle somehow, and it gives me the heebie jeebies no matter how I do it. :(
