Does anybody hate these as much as me. I mean look at the type of songs they sing, and the name of the band. They're pathetic.

They're not bad. I don't like the christmas song, but the rest rest is okay. I think 'Get your hands off my woman' is one of the better ones....

I think The Darkness are great. You have to hear the album to really get what they're all about though, the singles have all been quite upbeat and lightweight, but the remaining album tracks have a more maudlin feel.

As far as I can tell, many of the people who dislike the Darkness do so because they feel they are just getting rich by re-hashing music from the 80s (yet Oasis blatantly copied the sixties, and everybody loved them for it

). The truth, I feel, is that the Darkness are a truly shameless parody of 80s hair metal. Their songs are well written and original, if highly tongue in cheek. The composition of the band itself; the indulgent guitarist, the steady but unspectacular bass player-cum-pr0n star lookalike, Justin Hawkins' ridiculous falsetto and the anonymous drummer. The Darkness are a caricature of every hair metal band that's ever been.

What is more the Darkness, and to a lesser extent the Datsuns, will influence the next generation of musicians. Maybe not directly, but they will cause people to look back on the eighties and think "hey, this isn't all bad." The decade that has been musically taboo in recent years will start to re-emerge. Mark my words, the guitar solo will return!

I don't hate it because their trying to sound like the 80's... I hate it because of the fact that they make any sounds at all...

They're good fun, at the end of the day. My only fear is that they'll try and make a second album in the same style as the first. The only way I see them staying successful is if they parody a different decade for each album. Unfortunately, outside of the 80's and early 90's there isn't much call for falsetto. Maybe they could release some Kate Bush covers.

This album will probably be there only successful one... everyone will expect their next album to be great... just to find that it's crap.

I'm not sure that many people will expect much of the next album, to be honest. To actually make another good album along the lines of the last would require a songwriting feat the likes of which have never been seen before.

It'll need to be a parody of something else if it's to be successful. They can't do the Beatles (see my comments about Oasis earlier), so how about Earth, Wind and Fire!
