Animal Tongues, What's been licking you?

Post by Cameraman Jenn »

I was telling Damelon via im about accidentally getting french kissed by an English Bulldog by the name of Pudgy today when it dawned on me that I have been licked or touched the tongues of quite a variety of animals. I'll list the common first in a list of common pets and farm animals and then move on to the exotic with brief explanations.

Dogs... obviously
Cats
Rabbits
Cows
Sheep
Goats
Horses
Rats
Mice

Exotic Pets

Burmese/Indian python - Thulsa Doom, nine and a half foot long and about 65 pounds. I was the baby sitter until the new owner was to come (never showed) so Thulsa used to have out time to cruise around the house and would come up over the back of the couch and lick my ears and face and neck.
Skunk - my friend Leif's baby Lerm. I babysat Lerm a bunch of times. Lerm liked to lick the water off my ankles and feet when I would get out of the shower.
Opossum - my Dad rescued one from his mother's pouch when his mother got killed in the road. We raised him to a juvenile and released him in a bird sanctuary in Woodshole.
Iguanas - My friend Syrena had them as pets.
African Fire Belly Toad - Odin, he was a great toad, he liked to sit in puddles of carbonated things.
Koatamundi - He was the personal pet of the woman who owned the exotic pet store in Eugene Oregon.
Birds - cockatoo, cockatiel, parrot
Wolf - Anna, a domesticated wolf that belonged to a my friend Hannah.
Raccoon - a baby that I met at a Ren Fair

Zoo Animals:

Mule Deer - the zoo near my sister's place has food vending machines and I got to petting this mule deer and she licked my hands.
Thompson's Gazelle - Busch Gardens in Florida in the baby zoo. Right next to the sign that said, "Don't touch me I may bite." so of course I leaned over the fence and pet him.
Giraffe - sniffed and licked me and chewed my hair while I was petting the baby Gazelle
Bottlenose Dolphin - had a marine encounter swim with dolphins experience and Stormy played with my foot with her mouth. I also pet her tongue.

Strictly tongue touching:

not sure if it counts but I put my hand in a mako shark mouth. It was dead. I caught it. 135 pounds of shark. The tongue is all barbs so fish don't get back out.
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....

I can't touch Cameraman Jenn's list. My most unique animal experience was at the farm of the breeder that sold us our goats. She had taken in and nursed to health a large wild male deer that had been hit by a car. He must have been a 10 point or better. Apparently half the year male deer are scared silly of people and the other half of the year they want to tear your head off (especially if you are male.) We visited at exactly the "transition" time and so he actually let me pet him. I did not kiss him. (We had just met.)

I knew the risk. I bent down and was in process of saying "How's my ba- glug" at which point his tongue was in my mouth hence the glug. You would have hugged him too. Pudgy is magnetic.

I think my list would be fairly standard, dogs, cats, cows and horses are pretty standard. The only unusual ones I recall were a gerbil and a Blue Duiker, the world's smallest breed of deer.

A. Because proper tea is theft.

I'm the only one so far here to have been licked by a human?

I'm astounded. Truly astounded!

Other than the usual dogs and cats (which I don't allow near enough to lick me anymore), I have been licked by a rabbit, a leopard gecko, a parakeet, a guinea pig, several hamsters and gerbils, and a few snakes. I have never been licked by a human, nor have I ever licked any non-food item (excluding envelopes, stamps, etc.).

Maybe you should give it a go.

Stamps don't taste that bad!

I assume we will never see you stuck to a pole or door knob by your tongue in winter then? ;)

I think we may be more likely to.

In the same way that previously teetotal people can suddenly become acoholics upon first exposure, she may try licking some things and become hooked, licking everything in sight!

As an aside - why do people lick lampposts in cold weather? Isn't getting your tongue stuck the only thing that can possibly happen? There doesn't seem to be any risk/reward scenario here, it's just a you're-going-to-get-your-tongue-stuck-if-you-do-it scenario.

That's pretty much it.

I think those who do it do so because they don't believe it will actually happen.

Hyperception just suggested freezing a spoon and licking that. He claims even that should be enough to convince someone not to do the doorknob or pole.

...and requests you don't ask how he knows...

I've had my tongue and lips stuck to frozen objects before. My dad used to have a freezer which kept things well below the standard -2 to -8 degrees, and whenever you'd eat an ice lolly you had to be incredibly careful not to get a layer of skin ripped off.

I might try the spoon thing.

Might I suggest you never, ever, lick an ice cube tray...

...that was said as a comment to Menolly, I didn't mean for her to post it...

I tried to word that so that it would mean that I had licked stamps and envelopes, but not much else. I guess I failed.
You will not see me licking anything frozen, except ice cream. I'm not stupid.

Never lick dry Kool-Aid in the small packet, and never, ever stick half a straw into one, sealing up as tightly as you can and suck. But if you do, have a friend stand next to you with a camera, because you will make a funny face.

Is that a little like, don't try to break the five pound ice bag apart with your forehead? :P
